**ASSIGNMENT**

Taking up this position, which is funded by the Special Research Fund, leads to an appointment in a tenure track system for a duration of 5 years and implies the privilege of devoting oneself almost exclusively to research activities during this period, with a teaching load limited to no more than 8 ECTS credits per semester on average over a period of 3 years.

**Academic education**

You lecture various course units in the discipline of ‘Animal Viral Diseases’. You are willing to be active in the organization and teaching of the education services of the department. Associated with this mandate, it is the purpose that you will teach to veterinary students the course ‘Viral Diseases, Prion diseases and Zoonoses of animals’ and different parts in clinical courses, related with diagnosis and prevention of viral diseases in animals.

**Academic research**

You conduct research in the discipline of ‘Pathogenesis of Animal Viral Diseases’. You will actively search for money for performing your research and will disseminate your research results through different routes (publications, presentations during national and international congresses, layman’s talks).

**Academic services**

You take part in the internal and external service provision of the department of Translational Physiology, Infectiology and Public Health, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine.

**PROFILE**

**Experience**
- You have preferably obtained a PhD in veterinary sciences, medical sciences, biomedical sciences or biotechnological sciences.
- You have already conducted excellent academic research on the ‘Pathogenesis of Viral Diseases’, which is clearly reflected in outstanding publications, both veterinary and virologically, in national and international peer-reviewed books and/or journals;
- You are didactically skilled to teach university students to develop academic competences;
- Recommended are:

- Experience in supervising research and/or coaching master thesis and/or Ph.D. students;
- International mobility, among other things thanks to research stays at institutions external to the one where you acquired your highest academic degree (with proof of excellent output);
- Positively evaluated experience in provided or organised academic lecturing;
- Professionalisation of education;
- Experience with animal experiments;
- Experience with alternatives for animal experiments (e.g. explants, primary cell cultures);
- Experience with both basic (e.g. virus production and titration, PCR, microscopy, flow cytometry) and advanced molecular research technologies (e.g. cloning, CRISPR/Cas, transfections/transductions, infectious clones);
- Experience in writing projects and you are willing to expand this for obtaining research funding from several public funding agencies and private companies;
- Knowledge of physiological and clinical aspects of viral diseases in animals and humans, which is important for teaching the courses on viral diseases to veterinary students.
- Experience and/or knowledge about valorizing scientific research.
- You must master the language of instruction in which you will teach a course at CEFR- level C1.You can demonstrate this by means of a language certificate or a diploma obtained from an institution in which that language is the language of instruction. In addition, Article II.270, -1 of the Codex of Higher Education requires that: (i) you must master the Dutch language at least at CEFR-level A2 within two years after the start of the appointment. (ii) you must be able to master the Dutch language at least at CEFR-level of B2 within five years after the start of the appointment.
