POLITICO is looking for a reporter to join its team covering cybersecurity and data protection in Europe.
Cybersecurity has become one of the most pressing challenges facing politicians, business leaders and civil society in today’s world. Governments are scrambling to set cybersecurity rules and organizations are under constant threat of cyberattacks and espionage.
We are looking for a reporter who can drive our coverage of cybersecurity politics and policy in the European Union, covering topics from cybersecurity legislation at EU and national level to how critical industries in Europe are adapting to the threats. The reporter will also cover certain policy topics in the areas of privacy, surveillance and emerging technologies.
The position is a full-time role based in our newsroom in Brussels.
**What You'll Do**
- We’re looking for a confident source builder: you will be competing in a space where sourcing is vital and breaking news is the primary goal. Your reporting and analysis will define how cybersecurity is dealt with by political leaders, industry giants and others.
- You will co-author our must-read daily newsletter Pro Cyber Insights.
- You will contribute to POLITICO's wider range of platforms, including its free-to-read coverage, podcasts and newsletters in Europe, the U.S. and beyond.
- You will represent POLITICO at events and panels on topics that range from cybersecurity policy to technology issues more broadly.
**What You'll Need**
- At least three years of newsroom experience
- Proven ability to write clearly and accurately in English on deadline
- Proven ability to break news and a passion for giving readers inside information they need to know and can’t get elsewhere
- Willingness to work flexibly within a demanding, often fast-moving reporting job
- Knowledge of other European languages is a plus
- Knowledge of the topic area is a plus
