Context:
Within GEMS, the mission of the business platform** Short-term Power as-a-Service** (SPaaS) is to deliver services and value for clients on the short-term power markets, through strong business expertise and digital experience. The **Power Day-Ahead** (PDA) desk within SPaaS supports a large range of internal and external customers in Central Western Europe (CWE) by providing power asset optimization services on the day-ahead markets. PDA aims at delivering spot value for different power assets (nuclear, coal, gas-fired, CHP, biomass and pump storage assets), while respecting the contractual, regulatory and compliance frameworks in order to avoid any penalties.

We are currently looking for a **Power Asset Optimizer** in Brussels to strengthen our team. The mission of the optimizer will be a mix of operational activities performed in 7/7 shift and projects.

Mission:
As Power Asset Optimizer, your role will be to:

- Take part in the daily (7/7) asset optimization activity (for 75% percent of your time), which includes:

- Carrying out daily (7/7) optimization runs for the portfolio of assets in scope (nuclear, coal, gas-fired, CHP, biomass and pump storage assets) and devising a bidding strategy on the day-ahead exchanges of CWE that maximizes revenue while ensuring physical balance. Upon reception of the daily clearing results, computing and communicating the final production plans to the stakeholders involved in the process.
- Costing and bidding of capacity contracts on any asset eligible for the ancillary services (FCR, aFRR and mFRR) tendered daily by national Transmission System Operators (TSOs), arbitrating against all other market opportunities.
- Ensuring a transparent logging of all transactions in the deal capture systems as well as a thorough understanding of the P&L of every asset and a comprehensive reporting of the day-ahead activity.
- Coordinating the intra-month asset planning and maintenance scheduling of the portfolio by providing asset managers with up-to-date P&L assessments of the opportunities of their assets in short-term markets.
- On top of these activities (and for 25% of your time), you will contribute to projects around:

- Simplification and automation/digitalization of the desk activities.
- Development of power asset optimization services for third parties.
- Development of Day-ahead/Intraday optimization strategies.
- Development and maintenance of the IT optimization framework

**Profile**:

- Master’s degree in engineering or any other quantitative discipline (economics, computer science, finance, etc.).
- Willingness to take part in a rotating, on-duty shift system (7/7) requiring work over week-ends and bank holidays (with the appropriate compensation).
- Good understanding of the economics behind power plants, their technologies and how they are exploited in European power markets.
