The European Climate Foundation (ECF) was founded in 2008 as a major philanthropic initiative to help tackle climate change by fostering the development of a low-carbon society at the national, European and global level.
We support over 1000 partner organisations to carry out activities that contribute to the public debate on climate action, drive urgent and ambitious policy in support of the objectives of the Paris Agreement and help deliver a socially responsible transition to a net-zero emissions economy and sustainable society in Europe and around the world.
As towns, cities and countries around the world declare climate emergencies, seas rise, forests burn, glaciers melt, increasing numbers of people take to the streets demanding urgent action and our societies begin to wake up to what the science has been saying for many years, there has never been a more important time to be working on climate change.
**Position**:
The role involves networking and communications at local, regional and international levels. Partners and stakeholders include - among others - environmental justice NGOs, business associations, trade unions, think tanks, financial sector, grassroots/community groups, health sector leaders, air/water/land pollution experts, economists and other academics - both locally and abroad.
**Key responsibilities**:
- Developing climate action narratives and supporting voices that will resonate with audiences and influencers in economics and related fields.
- Writing and commissioning contributed editorial work (essays, reporting, opeds).
- Outreach to existing partners and building new partnerships in research, policy, advocacy and media.
- Developing and fine-tuning digital editorial work focused on the economics and political economy of climate change.
- Building audiences with digital social media and occasional online/in person events such as panels and roundtables.
- Liaising with network colleagues including providing support with insight and contacts on other projects.
**Requirements**:
- Experience in communications, ideally editorial but other backgrounds are considered.
- Experience in strategic advocacy and a track record of executing successful
- interventions.
- A proven ability to develop compelling narratives that address climate change while resonating with elite audiences, particularly those engaged with economics, finance and political economy.
- Established networks among economics thought leaders.
- Good understanding of macroeconomics, finance and related policy, including as it relates to energy transition and the Global South.
- Strong writing skills and a track record of robust and independent research on multiple topics.
- A good feel for the ideas, alignments, and fads in the elite discourse and an ability to identify opportunities to advance climate action.
- Networks in, or familiarity with other fields such as development finance; energy; industrial policy and politics are an advantage.
- Expertise in additional fields outside of climate and economics.
- Fluency in English; additional language skills are an advantage.
- The disposition to work generously with colleagues in a high-trust global community of peers.
- A genuine commitment to an inclusive and empowering approach to facing climate change.
