A project buyer is responsible for the strategic, tactical, and operational purchasing processes of the division and reports directly to the team leader.
Besides being responsible for your own commodities, your second responsibility is to be in charge of commodity improvements and New Product Development projects.
You will be responsible for drafting framework agreements with suppliers and for supplier follow-up based on the six pillars of purchasing: quality, delivery reliability, product and process development, total cost, sustainability, and supplier profile. You will also manage and optimize purchasing package in close collaboration with internal customers, the purchasing department of other divisions, and other production units.
**Key Responsibilities and Deliverables as commodity buyer**
- Develop a strategic plan for your commodity in collaboration with the team leader, based on Atlas Copco's objectives
- Follow-up suppliers based on six pillars of purchasing: quality, delivery reliability, product and process development, total cost, sustainability, and supplier profile.
- Measure and improve supplier performance
- Manage and optimize purchasing package in close collaboration with internal customers, the purchasing department of other divisions, and other production units
- Initiate and finalize purchasing cost reduction proposals, considering costs, value creation, and risk.
- Efficiently and analytically manage the commodity package
- Ensure technical innovation and supplier capabilities are integrated into Atlas Copco designs
- Maintain supplier relationships and conduct regular market research. Actively explore new opportunities and suppliers aimed at minimizing total cost of ownership
- Ensure good database management (supplier data, customer part numbers, prices, etc.)
- Optimize the process from order to delivery and ensure timely deliveries
- Structure the relationship between purchasing and internal customers
- Make suggestions and develop proposals to improve the purchasing process and procedures
**Key Responsibilities and Deliverables as project buyer**
- Be part of a multidisciplinary project team with the mission to bring new generations of compressors and/or air treatment equipment to the market
- Ensure the correct sourcing procedures are followed during the concept to product process
- Represent and uphold the purchase department in project teams for new development projects
- Facilitate constructive communication between project teams and sourcing
- Enable improvement proposals from sourcing within new project development
- Communicate project status from project team to the purchase department: timing, targets, testing, scope, quantities, etc.
- Follow-up on progress of the project with all stakeholders
- Report purchase status of the project to management: cost, supply chain, design improvements, supplier status, phase-in and phase-out, etc.
- Gather well rounded knowledge on all critical commodities required for a new development project
**Knowledge**:
- You have a master's degree or equivalent experience
- Experience and/or affinity with project management
- Fluent in English, both spoken and written, Dutch is a plus
- Proficient with MS Office (especially Excel and PowerPoint) and quick to navigate new IT systems
- Experience or interest in data management
- Relevant experience in a similar environment is an asset
