The European Brain Council is currently looking for a Communications and Advocacy Trainee to help strengthen the work of the Communication, Advocacy and Policy Team, under the supervision of EBC’s Head of Communications, Advocacy and Policy and Executive Director.
The European Brain Council (EBC) is a network of key players in the “Brain Area”, with a membership encompassing scientific societies, patient organisations, professional societies and industry partners. A non-profit organisation based in Brussels; its main mission is to promote brain research with the ultimate goal of improving the lives of the estimated 179 million Europeans living with brain conditions. With the aim to speak with one voice, EBC stands as the platform to foster cooperation between its member organisations and other stakeholders, consistently promoting dialogue between scientists, industry and society.
The EBC Communications, Advocacy and Policy Team is in charge of all EBC communication channels (website, social media, digital and printed informative materials, etc.) as well as those of our projects, particularly the European Brain Research Area and the Brain Innovation Days. The team plays a larger role in the preparation of EBC events, such as the above-mentioned Brain Innovation Days, Brain Awareness Week and more. Additionally, the team deals with all the policy issues relevant to the mission and objectives of EBC and ensures an adequate representation and recognition of EBC’s interests. More details below.
**The EBC Communications, Advocacy and Policy Team is in charge of the following tasks**:
- Monitoring policy developments impacting the fields of interest relevant to EBC, at EU, national and global levels, and identifying areas of action;
- Recommending action and initiatives to the Board of EBC;
- Representing EBC in key meetings, events and congresses;
- Planning and implementing communications activities surrounding all EBC work;
- Social media (mainly Twitter and LinkedIn) content and daily monitoring;
- Websites upkeep for all EBC-related websites - currently: EBC and Brain Innovation Days;
- Written content such as the monthly newsletter, weekly policy update (“Brainy Insights”), Annual Report, disease factsheets, news for the website, event reports, etc.;
- Assisting in creation of social media graphics and basic audio-visual content;
- Preparation of EBC and external events, including the Brain Innovation Days and policy-driven events;
- Brainstorming on innovative ways to improve EBC’s visibility.
**The Communications and Advocacy Trainee would be working with the team on all external communications, including but not limited to**:
- Preparation of social media posts (including graphics and/or other accompanying audio-visual material) and other needed external communication for EBC projects, initiatives, events and other news.
- Preparation of written material such as the EBC monthly newsletter, weekly policy/news update, other news pieces for the EBC website and any needed visual project content like brochures, flyers, etc.
- Event management duties for all upcoming events, eg. pre-event communications, logistics on the day, live tweeting, etc.
- Shared duty of maintaining the EBC and Brain Innovation Days websites to be fully updated with all the latest information and news.
- Being part of the main Brain Innovation Days team, which entails programme building, communications plan set-up and execution, etc.
- Potential to be part of congresses and other external events
Some experience in social media (focus on Twitter and LinkedIn), Wordpress and Microsoft Office proficiency is desired. Experience in the following platforms — or similar — is a plus: Visme, Photoshop, Riverside, Adobe Premiere Pro, Mailchimp, Hootsuite.
