**Votre mission**:
The Laboratory of Proteomics and Microbiology is headed by Professor Ruddy Wattiez and belongs to the research institute of Biosciences of the university of Mons. Historically, this laboratory has an expertise in protein biochemistry and in proteomic analyses. Diverse researches are ongoing in the lab mainly concerning environmental microbiology, bacterial stress response (notably regarding heavy metals resistance or space related conditions) and bacterial metabolism. B. Leroy, the UMONS promotor of the Redoxome project, has developed since several years a recognized expertise in microbial proteomic analysis and continuously develop and implement highly up-to-date methods in this field. ProtMic is also a full member of the European Space Agency driven MELiSSA project in the frame of which _Limnospira indica_ (formerly _Arthrospira sp._ PCC8005) and _Rs. rubrum_ were intensively studied. Since a couple of years, B. Leroy has been focusing his work on the photoheterotrophic carbon metabolism of purple bacteria. In 2023, multiple project related to purple bacteria metabolism are ongoing at ProtMic notably regarding protein production (PROTEBoost project (Win4Excellence)), Hydrogen metabolism (FRIA grant) as well as the development of fluorescent strains of purple bacteria for online monitoring of redox balance.
The ProtMic lab dispose of all relevant equipment and expertise required for metabolism characterization in purple bacteria and notably omics dedicated LC-MS instruments and photobioreactors.
- and demo-scale in industrial and environmental biotechnology. Redoxome focuses on understanding the mechanisms purple bacteria use to adapt to different carbon sources and how these mechanisms affect their competitiveness in microbial communities. Cutting-edge techniques to study pure cultures and bacterial consortia at the metabolic, genetic, functional, and ecological levels will be used. The insights gained from this project will accelerate innovation and valorization initiatives of purple bacteria biotechnology.
Redoxome is funded by Weave, a bottom-up cross-European initiative developed by European research funders - and embedded in Science Europe - to support excellent European collaborative research projects across national and regional borders, in this case the Flemish and Walloon regions, with respectively FWO and FNRS as funding bodies.
**Votre profil**:
- You hold a Master degree in Biology, Bioscience Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Biotechnology or an equivalent field of biological sciences.
- Demonstrable laboratory experience in microbial technology is a plus.
- You can demonstrate very good to excellent study results.
- You have good oral and written communication skills in English and communicate clearly and honestly. French is a plus.
- You have excellent interpersonal skills to collaborate constructively and respectfully with scientific team members and BSc/MSc students.
- You have excellent skills for managing your time and are able to meet objectives efficiently within strictly set deadlines.
- You are strong in working proactively and independently, with an outcome-focused mentality.
- You are willing to travel internationally for project meetings, conferences, workshops and/or research stays.
- You act with attention to quality, integrity, creativity and cooperation.
- You enjoy working in an interdisciplinary setting.
