**YOUR TASKS**
- At least 70% of your assignment will be spent on academic research.
- You will perform high-level scientific research on** acoustic camouflage. **Specifically, you will use electron, optical, and atomic force microscopy, acoustic measurements and modeling, and 3D replication/prototyping techniques to identify mechanisms of sound absorption by moth scales.
- You will author and co-author scientific publications and grant proposals based on your research
- You will counsel Bachelor and Master students in their exercises, work placement and Master’s dissertation;
- You will counsel doctoral students.

**WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR**
- You hold a thesis-based doctorate (obtained max. 6 years ago. This term of 6 years is determined by the date written on the above-mentioned required diploma) in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science or a discipline that is declared admissible by the selection committee, or an equivalent degree. The degree requirements need to be fulfilled at the start of your appointment
- You have already conducted high-level scientific research within the field of **acoustics,** **sensory ecology, or optics**, as evidenced by scientific publications in (inter)national peer-reviewed academic journals that are widely disseminated;
- You have so far distinguished yourself as a promising researcher in your doctorate;
- You have a broad expertise in **acoustic,** **optical, evolutionary and/or micro/nanoscale morphological approaches**;
- You are interested in coaching students in the Bachelor’s, Master’s and/or Advanced Master’s programmes;
- You have a very good knowledge of written and spoken English.

**WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU**
- We offer you a contract of indefinite duration with a maximum term of 3 years
- Your contract will start on 1/01/2024 at the earliest.
