The European Partnership Markets (PM) is one of the largest regional businesses in the two European regions, and operates as an innovative partnership business model across 16 markets within Central, Eastern and Southern Europe and the Baltics, delivering over £200m of business and providing treatments to over 13.4 million patients in the region.
The PM team works with third party partners in these markets on distribution, regulatory, commercial, market access and medical affairs activities across the whole GSK portfolio - General medicines, Speciality, Vaccines, and HIV. Our partners directly promote and provide medical support to healthcare professionals for our HIV, Nucala and Ellipta portfolios.
The PM Team is the interface with the Partners, providing oversight and governance, and ensuring performance and delivery. Working with partners, the team remains accountable for ensuring patients continue to have access to our medicines and vaccines, including new innovation.
**Job Purpose**:
This role will be accountable for medical affairs activities related to GSK’s paediatric and established vaccines portfolio in all 16 Partnership Markets; and Shingles and RSV in 11 Partnership Markets.
As product and therapy area expert, the Medical Advisor exists to provide non-promotional, medical support that helps to ensure the safe and effective use of GSK’s vaccines in the countries in scope. The Medical Advisor achieves this through effective scientific interactions with external stakeholders, third-party partners, and by providing medical and scientific support for internal stakeholders, including Market Access and Commercial, above-country Medical, R&D etc., as well as for our local Partners providing related Services.
The Medical Advisor ensures that they are at all times aware of the latest medical, regulatory and scientific insights through appropriate scientific exchange with external experts, attendance at key scientific meetings, literature review, and participation in internal cross-functional teams.
In addition, the Medical Advisor develops and implements medical strategic and operational plans in the therapy area and is the primary internal medical/scientific training resource. Finally, they are the principal GSK Medical contact for external stakeholders such as physicians, pharmacists and patient organisations.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- Medical Strategy for GSK’s paediatric and established vaccines portfolio and GSK’s vaccines pipeline in the Partnership Markets
- External engagement with key stakeholders for the paediatric and established portfolio in all 16 Partnership Markets, and for Shingles and RSV in 11 Partnership Markets (e.g. medical education, meeting with government stakeholders and NITAGs, advice seeking activities)
- Primary point of contact for escalated external medical/scientific questions
- Medical lead for Tenders and provides medical support for other functions and above-country medical team (e.g., portfolio simplification, quality incidents, supply incidents, clinical trials etc.).
- Copy approval of relevant Vaccines materials
- Established Vaccines scientific engagement budget accountability
**Requirements**:
**Basic qualifications and experience**:
- Advanced Degree in life sciences and/or public health or other relevant field
- Prior pharmaceutical industry experience, acquired through global or Regional/Local Medical Affairs or non-Medical Affairs relevant functional areas
- Acknowledged ability to constructively interact cross-functionally
- Interaction experience with external experts (EE’s), governmental officials and/or advocacy groups.
- Demonstrated ability to autonomously work in a resource-limited environment to drive strategic and focused outcomes
- Ability to take a solid fact-based position
- Ability to develop and review independently new materials based on strategy, core evidence documents and communication strategy
- Experience with review & approval processes in a highly regulated setting
- Some experience of interacting with and managing external vendors
- Proficiency in common office programs (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
- Fluent in English
**Preferred qualifications and experience**:
- MD or PhD in Life Sciences
- Ability to interpret (pre-)clinical, epidemiological, health outcomes, and real-world data and translate this into patient benefits
- Relevant experience in vaccines is a strong asset
- Experience in organising activities involving External Experts (e.g. advisory boards, scientific symposia, medical education meetings etc.)
- Excellent communication skills
- Speaker experience on scientific/medical topics to different audiences
- Publication experience
