**Function**:
**Goal of the internship**:
Industrial Internet Of Things (IIoT) is becoming more popular in the industrial sector. It’s an enabler for connecting a lot of machine data but leaving companies with the questions on how to store, manage and process all this data. The future is also looking more into the usage of cloud infrastructures, but these also comes with their limitations i.e. available bandwidth, latency, security, computational resources,...

In industry there is a need to have real-time response so data should be stored and processed instantly, close to the production where the data is captured.

Edge computing addresses these issues by providing a framework with low latency, high bandwidth, processing capabilities,...

The goal of this internship is to experiment with the Industrial Edge system of Siemens. This edge device is installed in the SmartFactory demonstrator at Flanders Make and (de)assembles flashlights. During the traineeship you will develop new edge apps that uses data captured from the SmartFactory demonstrator, processes this data (e.g visualization, filtering, analyzing), virtualize these new apps in docker containers and deploy them on the edge device.

Learning target:

- working on a state-of-the-practice industry 4.0 infrastructure;

**Profile**:
**Profile Student**:

- Bachelor degree in Computer Science;
- Knowledge of Internet of Things, Java, Python, Node.js and experience with virtualization (e.g. Docker is highly recommended;
- Result oriented, responsible and proactive;
- A good communicator, able to communicate in English;
