We are looking for a Senior Python Backend Engineer for a International institution in Brussels, Belgium , with strong experience in Python, Django, Flask or FastAPI, REST APIs and database development .
You will contribute to the development of secure, scalable backend applications, working with modern Python frameworks, databases, containerized environments and DevSecOps practices within an international IT environment.
Hybrid Brussels – 5 days onsite per month – Europe-based candidates within 2 hours of Brussels – Contractor – Fluent English
A work permit is required but not provided.
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain backend applications and services using Python and frameworks such as Django, Flask or FastAPI ;
- Design, implement and integrate RESTful APIs and backend services;
- Develop and optimize database schemas, ORM models and SQL queries across relational and NoSQL databases;
- Apply secure coding practices, authentication, authorization, encryption and vulnerability scanning;
- Support automated testing, code quality and CI/CD processes using modern development and DevSecOps tools;
Profile
- Bachelor's or Master's degree;
- 6+ years of professional Python development experience ;
- Strong experience with Django, Flask or FastAPI and RESTful API development;
- Experience with relational databases such as Oracle or PostgreSQL and NoSQL technologies such as Elasticsearch or MongoDB;
- Excellent knowledge of ORM, database schema design and query optimization ;
- Experience with Docker or Podman, Kubernetes and Linux environments ;
- Knowledge of secure coding, OWASP-related vulnerability scanning, authentication, authorization and encryption ;
- Experience with Git or SVN , code quality tools such as pylint, Black or flake8, and AI coding assistants such as GitHub Copilot or Amazon Kiro;
- Experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI or GitHub Actions, and familiarity with Ansible and virtual machine management;
- Fluent English , with availability to work onsite in Brussels 5 days per month.
