UI Designer

Outsight is a product studio since 2021, based in Brussels.

We work with ambitious teams to turn complex problems into digital products that actually make sense : for users, for the business, and for the people building them. We bring strategy, UX, UI and technology around the same table, rather than treating them as separate steps in a process.

And we don’t disappear after the handoff. We work closely with our clients over the long run, becoming part of their product team and continuously improving what we build together.

We’re not here to sell more screens, features or development hours. We’re here to understand what deserves to be built, challenge what doesn’t, and make the right things exceptionally well.

We work with very different kinds of organisations.

One week, we might be helping an early-stage startup turn an idea into its first real product. The next, we’re improving the acquisition experience of a scale-up, designing a complex SaaS platform, rethinking an e-commerce journey, or helping a larger organisation make one of its digital products actually make sense.

Startups. Scale-ups. SMEs. Larger organisations. Different industries, different levels of maturity, different problems.

What does UI Designer mean at Outsight?

Your job is to turn product thinking into excellent interfaces

You’ll work from concepts, UX flows, user needs, research and business constraints developed with the rest of the team, and figure out how all of that should actually look, feel and behave.

You won’t be expected to be the researcher, strategist and UX expert all at once. You’ll have people around you whose job it is to bring those perspectives. Your expertise is the interface.

And an interface isn’t a collection of pretty static screens : it moves. It reacts. It changes depending on the content, the device, the user, the state and what happened five seconds before.

So yes, we care about how things look. But we care just as much about how they behave, and whether what you designed can actually be built.

You are a team player, not a lone wolf

You won’t be doing any of that alone in a corner of Figma either. You’ll work closely with UX experts, other designers and developers. Sometimes you’ll receive a pretty clear UX direction and have to find the best way to bring it to life. Sometimes designing it will expose something we hadn’t considered... and we’ll figure it out together.

People will challenge your work. And we expect you to challenge theirs too.

You should be comfortable explaining your decisions to the team and presenting your work to clients, and be able to say "I think we should do it this way, and here’s why" without becoming attached to being right.

Great products rarely come from one person’s genius. They come from smart people making each other’s thinking better.

The kind of designer we’re looking for

First things first: this isn’t a graphic design role disguised as UI design.

Visual creativity matters a lot to us, but we’re looking for someone who already understands the technical craft behind designing digital interfaces.

You have at least 2 years of relevant experience. That doesn’t necessarily mean two years with the perfect job title at the perfect company : serious freelance and personal projects count too.

You know your craft.

We care about the details. Not because perfect Figma files are the end goal, but because designing interfaces that actually work requires technical rigour.

  • You’re very comfortable in Figma : components, variables and Auto Layout aren’t mysterious concepts to you.
  • You think about responsiveness while designing, not once somebody asks what happens on mobile.
  • You think in components, states, behaviours and edge cases, rather than isolated screens.
  • You understand design systems and know how to work within one without being constrained by it.
  • You can prototype enough to clearly communicate how an interface should behave.
  • You understand UX principles and can turn UX requirements into thoughtful interface decisions.
  • You care about the small stuff. Yes, that includes the 4px inconsistency you just spotted.
  • You think one step ahead, adding thoughtful details that make developers’ lives easier.
  • You can have conversations with developers about implementation. We don’t expect you to be a front-end expert, but you understand that some decisions take five minutes to build and others can take five days.
  • You know how to work with existing resources (branding, previous screens, way of working), without having to rebuild from scratch
