At European Commodities, finance, operations, and risk management are closely connected. As a Business Controller – Finance & Risk, you help ensure that the data behind settlements, invoicing, reporting, and risk monitoring is accurate, reliable, and actionable.
You work across finance, trading, operations, and IT to strengthen controls, improve processes, and provide management with the insights needed to steer a growing business in an increasingly complex energy market.
Your role
You will play a central role in validating, controlling, and improving the financial and operational processes that support our energy trading activities.
Your responsibilities include:
- Controlling and validating financial and operational data used for settlement, invoicing, reporting, and risk monitoring
- Managing monthly settlement invoicing for customers, trading counterparties and transmission system operators
- Monitoring automated invoicing processes and investigating deviations or inconsistencies
- Supporting the monthly financial close process in collaboration with the accounting function
- Translating financial and operational figures into clear management insights and dashboards
- Monitoring cash flow, collateral requirements, and financial exposures
- Reviewing compliance with trading mandates and internal controls
- Identifying financial, operational, and contractual risks and contributing to stronger risk management frameworks
- Helping develop reporting tools, controls, and risk monitoring processes

Your background
- A Master’s degree in Economics, Business Engineering, Finance, Accounting, or a related field
- At least 3 years of experience in controlling, audit, finance, or business analysis
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to connect financial results to operational processes
- Excellent Excel skills and experience working with large datasets and reconciliations
- Affinity with reporting, data analysis, internal controls, and risk management
- Experience with SQL and/or Python is an advantage
- Experience within an audit firm, energy company or trading environment is an advantage
- Knowledge of energy markets is beneficial but not required
- Fluent in English (Dutch or French is a plus)
