Battery & Mechanical Engineer - Maritime Energy Transition

Have you got what it takes to succeed The following information should be read carefully by all candidates.

THE CHALLENGE

Batia Mosa is an established Belgian shipyard located in Andenne, specializing in the construction, conversion, and repair of inland waterway and service vessels. To shape the future of sustainable maritime transport, Batia Mosa has created an internal clean-tech venture dedicated to developing and integrating modular, high-performance battery systems.

With two major multi-year innovation programs already secured (funded by regional and European initiatives for zero-emission shipping), funding and manufacturing infrastructure are fully in place. The theoretical R&D phase on paper is complete: we are moving directly to physical assembly, testing, certification, and hands-on installation of our battery packs on the shipyard floor. To strengthen our engineering team on-site at Batia Mosa, we are looking for a Hands-on Battery & Mechanical Engineer who thrives in a practical, workshop-based environment.

YOUR MISSION

Working in close collaboration with your engineering peer (who leads the software, simulation, and BMS side), you will form the technical core of our internal venture. You will take full ownership of the mechanical and electromechanical aspects of our battery systems, splitting your time between CAD design and the workshop floor.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Mechanical Battery Design & Integration: Design physical enclosures, module/cell-to- pack structures, liquid/water cooling systems, cabling layouts, and mechanical safety for marine battery packs.

  • Hands-on Assembly & Workshop Execution: Go beyond the screen: physically assemble, wire, fit, and test battery prototypes and test benches inside the shipyard workshop.

  • Testing & Troubleshooting: Conduct physical test cycles, diagnose mechanical or thermal issues on the shop floor, and implement pragmatic engineering solutions.

  • On-Ship Installation: Collaborate closely with Batia Mosa’s shipyard technicians and craftsmen to integrate battery systems directly onto vessels.

  • Certification & Compliance: Ensure mechanical and structural designs meet maritime classification criteria (such as ES-TRIN and DNV).

YOUR PROFILE

  • Education & Background: Master's or Bachelor's degree in Electromechanical, Mechanical, or Mechatronics Engineering.

  • Experience & Affinity: Strong interest or practical knowledge in battery technology (cell-to- pack architecture, structural enclosures, thermal management, or high-voltage systems). Experience in maritime, automotive, or heavy-duty machinery is a distinct plus.

  • Hands-on Mindset: You are a practical engineer who enjoys working with tools and test equipment alongside technicians on the workshop floor.

  • Complementary Team Player: You work in synergy with our software/BMS engineer, bringing strong mechanical and physical execution skills to the team.

  • Languages: Good working knowledge of French (essential for daily communication on the shipyard floor) and English (for technical documentation and supplier interactions).

OUR OFFER

  • The Best of Both Worlds: The speed, agility, and impact of an R&D venture combined with the financial stability, machinery, and craftsmanship of an established shipyard.

  • Tangible Engineering: See your designs manufactured, tested, and installed directly on real ships.

  • Long-Term Stability: Work on fully-funded, multi-year innovation projects that are already granted and active. xlxgzvr

  • Short Lines & Pragmatism: A direct, no-nonsense working environment where results count.
