Database Administrator Expert (MS SQL Server)

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Database Administrator Expert to join a Database Integration Team within ICT Systems & Operations. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the stability, availability, security, and performance of critical Microsoft SQL Server environments while supporting ongoing infrastructure and database projects. You will work closely with infrastructure partners, internal stakeholders, developers, and external service providers to maintain and optimize enterprise database platforms that support key business operations.
Key Responsibilities
Manage, maintain, and support Microsoft SQL Server database environments. Write, validate, test, and execute database changes in production environments. Review and validate developer requests, ensuring compliance with established standards and best practices. Prepare and execute implementation, rollback, and release plans following strict release management procedures. Perform database installations, configurations, upgrades, migrations, and decommissioning activities. Support database lifecycle management initiatives. Monitor database health, availability, and performance proactively. Analyze and optimize SQL Server performance, including query tuning and Query Store analysis. Manage backup, restore, disaster recovery, and high-availability solutions. Support incident, problem, and service request management following ITIL processes. Participate in database refresh activities for development and testing environments. Create and maintain detailed technical documentation and operational procedures. Collaborate across multidisciplinary teams and communicate technical recommendations effectively. Ensure security remains a top priority in all database-related activities. Required Skills & Experience Technical Expertise 8+ years of experience working with relational databases. Extensive experience with Microsoft SQL Server 2019 and newer versions. Strong expertise in: SQL Server Database Engine SSIS SSRS Database configuration and deployment 5+ years of experience with: SQL Server High Availability & Disaster Recovery (AlwaysOn) Microsoft Cluster Technologies Database migrations Backup and restore strategies Database performance tuning and optimization Experience with: PowerShell scripting Windows Performance Monitor (PerfMon) Virtualization technologies ITSM platforms (preferably Jira Service Management) ITIL processes including Incident, Change, and Release Management Preferred Qualifications Active Directory administration experience. SQL Server Management features (Extended Events, Alerting, CMS). Transparent Data Encryption (TDE) and Connection Encryption certificate management. Experience with: CommVault backups Dynatrace monitoring SCOM monitoring Oracle or PostgreSQL databases Azure SQL (IaaS/PaaS) Visual Studio Database Projects Oracle GoldenGate Windows Server 2019+ and Red Hat Linux Soft Skills Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills. Ability to work independently and manage end-to-end deliverables. Detail-oriented with a structured and process-driven approach. Team player who enjoys sharing knowledge and learning from others. Able to perform effectively in high-pressure environments. Language Requirement Native-level Dutch (CEFR C2) is mandatory.
