Working around the globe, Fugro employs approximately 10,000 employees in around 60 countries.Roles and ResponsibilitiesSuccessful applicants will be based in our Louvain-la-Neuve office, Belgium. They will be tasked with performing hydraulic/geotechnical engineering analyses and preparing study reports for our clients. Initial project work is likely to cover one or more of the following aspects (non-exhaustive):Scour assessments: Scour and sediment transport analyses around wind turbines, cables/pipelines, or seabed structures, including either analytical approaches or detailed numerical modelling.Morphological assessments: Quantitative morphological characterization of seabed evolution, bedforms, and sediment transport.Sediment dispersion modelling: As part of the environmental impact assessment of drilling, dredging, or other processes involving seabed disturbance.Geohazard assessments: Submarine slope failure risk assessment, including the numerical modelling of sediment-laden flows (turbidity currents, debris flows).Tsunami hazard modelling : probabilistic tsunami hazard assessment based on modelling of propagation/inundation for various tsunamigenic sources (earthquake-induced fault displacement, submarine landslides). Burial assessments: Assessment of seabed sediment for the purpose of cable/pipeline trenching/burial.Numerical developments: Further development and validation of numerical codes and/or web applications.Participation in R&D activities: Actively participate in the R&D activities of the team.As part of the wider Marine GeoConsultancy Service Line of Fugro, the successful candidate will be integrated within the "Dynamic Modelling" team, whose consultancy work focuses among others on seabed mobility, geomorphology, and sediment-transport related processes, at the interface of hydraulic and geotechnical engineering. A common denominator of most projects is that it involves a numerical modelling component of dynamic processes that include the water column and sediment bed. The team has a growing portfolio of international projects ranging from concept through to detailed design, in offshore and coastal environments. It also captures newly matured technologies and data such as the use of satellite images or machine learning technologies. The team is also active in the development of engineering Finite Element or optimisation software for offshore cables and pipelines serving the offshore wind and carbon storage markets.The candidate’s responsibility will be aligned with their seniority level and background.RequirementsApplicants will have demonstrable technical, commercial, project management, and people management skills, and experience in a fast-paced engineering consultancy environment with a desire to continually learn. Applicants are required to have:Educational Background: A robust academic background with a relevant degree (e.g., civil engineering; hydraulic or geotechnical with a minor in hydraulics) at MSc level or above.Technical Skills: Technical skills in relation to energy and/or infrastructure hydraulic and/or geotechnical design.Project Management Experience: Experience in managing technically and commercially successful projects.Organizational Skills: Excellent organizational skills.Industry Knowledge: Knowledge of key industry design standards and codes within their area of experience.Analytical Skills: The ability to understand, interpret, and critique field measurements and results from standard and advanced laboratory testing.Numerical Modelling Expertise: Expertise in numerical modelling and computational fluid mechanics; knowledgeable user of programming environments such as Matlab, Python, and/or C++; knowledge of a hydraulic software package such as Delft3D or Telemac is a key advantage.Related Project Experience: Past experience on related projects involving hydraulic modelling and sediment transport assessments.GIS Knowledge: Knowledge of Arc-GIS and/or Q-GIS is a plus.Communication Skills: Good written and verbal communication skills.Attention to Detail: The ability to produce accurate numerical and written work with attention to detail.Creative Problem-Solving: A creative thought process to engineering problems.
