Job Description
Discovery College is searching for an exceptional educator to fill the position of PYP Teacher Librarian to start in August 2026. Based on experience, the successful candidate may also be considered for the Head of Library position.
Job Summary
The PYP Teacher Librarian is a key educator collaborating with teachers to foster information literacy, inquiry skills, and a love of reading within the IB Primary Years Programme. They curate diverse, high-quality print and digital resources, teach research skills, and promote digital citizenship to support student inquiry and academic growth. The PYP Teacher Librarian works to maximise student learning and development through the co-planning of units with classroom teachers, and the preparation and teaching of the information literacy and digital citizenship curriculum to meet students' individual learning needs and achieve specific student outcomes. The PYP Teacher Librarian engages in critical reflection in order to improve their knowledge and skills to better engage students and improve their learning.
Main Accountabilities
Use own professional role to ensure that the College is able to deliver on the 5 DC Outcomes for every student
Plan lessons and sequences of lessons to meet students' individual learning needs and to ensure students' progression
Use a range of appropriate strategies for teaching and learning and classroom management
Use flexible groupings and structured inquiry to deliver high quality lessons in line with the IBO philosophy
Maintain a well organised and stimulating learning environment
Use learning technologies to enhance learning
Use information about prior attainment to set expectations for students
Use a range of assessment and reporting methods that make students' achievement visible in relation to learning outcomes
Provide clear and constructive feedback to students and their parents and caregivers
Plan and engage in professional learning activities that support College and systemic priorities
Take responsibility for own professional development and use the outcomes to improve teaching and students' learning
Make an active contribution to the policies and aspirations of the College
Ensure administration of classroom procedures is completed efficiently
Collaborate positively with members of the school community to build a team environment that supports students' learning
Participate in Quality Assurance and School Improvement in order to ensure high standards of professional practice and student outcomes
Utilise the Professional Reflection and Development process
to ensure own professional development and support for organisational priorities
Contribute to the wider life of the College including through the co-curricular programme and offsite activities.
Support the academic, pastoral and co-curricular work of the school
As required as a Class Teacher or Learning Advisor, provide care and support for students to ensure all students make excellent progress and have the opportunity to flourish
Under the guidance of the Head of Library, contribute to the day-to-day management of the library and its collections to ensure the College's learning resources support the implementation of the 5 DC outcomes.
Perform other duties which may reasonably be assigned from time to time by the Principal or his/her delegate
Other Areas Of Accountabilities
Curriculum Collaboration: Co-design units and team-teach with teachers across all year levels in Primary. Work with class teachers to integrate library resources and information literacy skills into Units of Inquiry.
Instruction & Literacy: Teach information literacy skills, foster a love of reading, and promote literature across various genres and cultures.Collaborate with teachers to develop literature-based reading programmes. Be knowledgeable about the Science of Reading and how children learn to read.
Digital Citizenship & Research: Guide students in ethically locating, evaluating, and using information, and supporting academic integrity.
Collection Development & Management: Strategically plan and budget for improvement in library and curriculum resources. Maintain a diverse, relevant, and engaging collection of print and digital resources.
Library Environment & Event Planning: Create a welcoming, stimulating learning environment that serves as a hub for inquiry and promotes a love of reading. Plan and organise events throughout the course of the year such as author visits and Book Week events.
Professional Development: Support staff by providing access to professional resources and fostering an information-literate community.

Minimum Typical Education
Bachelor Degree in Education, or Bachelor Degree in any subjects with PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate of Education), or equivalent
Minimum Typical Experience
An understanding of the IB and the key underpinnings of the curriculum frameworks is essential.
All Teachers Are Expected To
Contribute to the school extra curricular programme throughout the year
Participate in key school and PTA events on identified evenings and weekends
Contribute to the Education outside the Classroom Programme, including by leading residential excursions in urban or rural locations, in Hong Kong or overseas, as required
