The assignment
- Build multi-physics models for micro-LEDs covering carrier injection, transport, recombination and light emission characteristics.
- Analyze optical coupling and external quantum efficiency related to pixel geometry and surface effects. Assess impact of thermal effects on efficiency.
- Implement model for optimization of emission pattern considering coupling to waveguides and other optical elements.
- Integrate simulation data with experiments to refine models.
- Simulate impact of geometric parameters like aspect ratio, pixel pitch, and encapsulation.
- Collaborate with teams in epitaxy, processing, and packaging for design feedback.

Required knowledge and skills
- Ph.D. (preferred) or M.S. in Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, Materials Science, Optoelectronics, or a related field.
- Experience in (micro) LED design, modelling LED emission profiles, efficiency, thermal management, and carrier dynamics.
- Expertise in semiconductor device physics and photonic simulations.
- Experience with tools like TCAD, COMSOL, Lumerical, Ansys HFSS, Zemax, or similar.
- Demonstrated ability to validate simulations with experimental results.
- Strong publication or patent record in LEDs, micro-LEDs, or optoelectronics.
