Our client is a chemical giant based on different locations in Belgium. They are currently looking to strengthen their Belgian team with a

**Country Controller**

The role may be extended to other countries on an as-needed basis.

**The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following**:

- Provide oversight over finance close activities, ensuring seamless delivery to stakeholders and proactive advice across all of Finance and its functions.
- Support business decisions by verifying statements and reports for accuracy and investigating discrepancies when identified.
- Accountable for the quality and the accuracy of the financial statements of the legal entity, in both local GAAP as required by local authorities and US GAAP for consolidation purposes.
- Establish and maintain responsibility for corporate compliance with accounting rules and regulations, SEC reporting and compliance, incl. tax and tax accounting.
- Oversight review of a system of internal control processes and procedures to enable compliance with regulations, ensure the accuracy of financial records and safeguard company assets.
- Provide consistent and collaborative approach to resolving business needs through accounting competencies.
- Become responsible for the interpretation and communication of accounting policies and practices, establishment and enforcement of internal controls in the country.
- Prepare and present ad-hoc financial reports to internal and external stakeholders.
- Ensure timely and accurate completion of all financial reporting requirements.
- Build and maintain superior relationships with the Center of Excellence in Asturias (Spain) and US Corporate Finance function, as well as with external stakeholders including auditors, tax advisors and tax authorities.

**The following is **_required_** for this role**:

- Higher education in Finance, Accounting, or related field.
- 5+ years of experience in a finance/accounting role, with a minimum of 3 years in a senior finance position.
- Strong knowledge of US GAAP, local GAAP and related compliance incl. tax laws and regulations.
- Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization and more specifically to Business Service Centers or Business Process Outsourcing.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, with advanced skills in Excel and financial software.
- Very good written and verbal communication skills in Flemish, English and French.

**The following is **_preferred_** for this role**:

- SAP experience (R3, S4) is a plus.
- Knowledge of other European language is a plus.
- Experience in an Audit firm is a plus.
- Working experience with centralized Service Center is a plus.
