We are looking for a creative and highly driven **Translational Bioinformatics** **Scientist - Neurosciences**to join our team based in **Braine l’Alleud, Belgium**.

**About the role**

You will be part of a highly motivated, multi-disciplinary global team passionate about improving our understanding of the molecular mechanisms that drive complex, chronic diseases and response to treatment. We strive to increase the predictability of drug discovery and development and bring differentiated therapies to those living with severe diseases.

**Who you’ll work with**

You will interact with lab scientists, function and project leaders, helping them design data rich experiments to answer biological questions and share and discuss results of data analyses. You will evolve in a vibrant and enriching scientific environment, be exposed to academic collaborations and ambitious drug discovery projects across our three research sites, and benefit from the cumulative experience of a global bioinformatics team.

**What you’ll do**

The successful applicant will help assist UCB’s therapeutic ambitions in epilepsy, neurodegeneration and neuroinflammation by unlocking mechanistic insights from transcriptomic and metabolomic profiling of patient samples, analysing perturbations of patient-derived cell systems and in vivo / _ex vivo_ animal models, and enriching our knowledge of disease aetiology to inform new targets and drug mechanism of action.

**Interested? For this role we’re looking for the following education, experience and skills**
- Strong understanding of neurosciences and molecular mechanisms of disease enabling interpretation of results
- Demonstrated experience in data-driven target discovery and biological mechanism elucidation
- Thoroughly versed with statistical concepts, data mining, analysis and visualization of biological data types acquired through hands-on experience, including programming in R and/or Python
- A good understanding of RNA- and DNAseq analysis best practices (single-cell, spatial, epigenomics, etc).
- Ability to utilise a diverse toolbox of methods for biological interpretation of gene expression data including pathway analysis, functional module detection, and causal reasoning will be a distinct advantage
- Good understanding of recent advances of generative and predictive AI applied to biology understanding and target prioritization is a must, with operational knowledge of major AI frameworks considered a plus.
- Published experience of analysis and interpretation of alterations in gene expression in neurological conditions is an advantage
