Impact & Data Project Officer

CONTEXT Every day, millions of kilograms of plastic end up in nature. Plastics do not decompose and stay around forever, causing harm to people, animals and the environment. Our vision is to create a world in which rivers are free of plastics.. As our Impact & Data Project Officer, you play a crucial part in this journey ensuring excellent quality of data and smooth support of ongoing projects. You will work in the Programs and Operations team and report to the Program Coordinator as part of a growing team. OUR STORY River Cleanup started in 2017 with a 10-minute cleanup and was founded in Antwerp in 2019 as a nonprofit organization. To date we activated +370.000 volunteers via +7.600 events in 102 countries, removed 3,9 million kilograms of river waste from nature and developed the Clean River Model as an open-source theory of change for plastic-free rivers. Through strategic and early interventions in the plastic lifecycle, we turn off the tap on new plastic pollution and permanently remove legacy waste on land and in rivers. The Clean River Model consists of 3 pillars (Empower people, Prevent pollution and Accelerate change) and 3 enablers (Assessment, Planning, Monitoring & Evaluation). Together, they encompass the entire lifecycle of river plastics. We are validating the Clean River Model in three action zones in 2025/2026 and will scale-up the implementation to 100 rivers by 2030. YOUR ROLE This is a dual role; where you will combine your data-analysing and verification skills together with your project management skills. 70% of your role will be to support the Assessment & Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning (MEL) pillar of the Global Clean River Model by:
- Ensuring data accuracy and consistency across community, school, waste and pollution assessments.
- Data analysis; trends, correlations, location-based insight, impact measurements
- Improving data visualization
- creating impactful charts, maps, and dashboards to communicate key figures and trends.
- Drafting and refining reports and presentations that guide decision-making and action.
- Helping streamline our data collection tools (templates, surveys, Excel trackers, etc.) for better usability and efficiency. 30% of your role will be to support and/or lead projects in Belgium and beyond. These may evolve over time; depending on opportunities and needs within the team, and may include the following:
- Planning, coordinating, and executing projects from start to finish (including timelines, budgeting, and reporting).
- Coordinating with internal and external stakeholders to ensure smooth collaboration and delivery.
- Assisting local teams in implementing program activities and achieving impact on the ground. Requirements: WHAT IS REQUIRED TO THRIVE IN THIS ROLE
- Relevant degree (Economics, Environmental Science, Data Science, Development Studies, or similar) with 0-3 of experience.
- Strong interest or skills in Excel, data analysis, and visual storytelling.
- Skills in software similar to SPSS, PowerBI, ArcGIS, etc. will be taken into account.
- Detail-oriented, proactive, and quick to learn new tools.
- A drive to manage projects from beginning to end; liaise with our country-teams to support them to achieve the highest impact
- Fluent in English and Dutch or French.
- Curious, proactive, and passionate about environmental impact and global collaboration.

We offer
up to 2 days of remote work per week, with Tuesday and Thursday as our fixed office days.
- To help you settle in and connect with the team, we ask new starters to be on-site as much as possible during the first 6 months before transitioning to the standard arrangement.
- This position is a full-time position (39 hrs / five days).
- Expected start date: as soon as possible
