** YOUR TASKS**
- You will dedicate at least 50% of your assignment to scientific research in preparation for a doctoral dissertation. You will conduct your research within the Pediatric Cardiology unit of the Department of Internal Diseases and Pediatrics. In doing so, you will collaborate with other researchers both within and outside the department.
- You will contribute to a project aimed at improving the diagnosis and treatment of cardiomyopathy (CMP) in children through several different facets:
1. Establishing a national research platform to map the pediatric CMP population in Belgium and Luxembourg and clarify their characteristics.

2. Laying the foundation for a national diagnostic protocol to enable and improve early and accurate diagnosis of the disease.

3. Generating human-induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs) from two patients with restrictive CMP caused by a pathogenic FLNC variant.

4. Developing and characterizing a 3D cardiac model from patient-specific hiPSCs to uncover the pathophysiological mechanisms and identify potential therapeutic targets.
- You will assist in the teaching activities at the department, specifically the courses of the department of Internal Medicine and Paediatrics.
- You will assist in the internal and external services of the department.
- The half-time mandate will be supplemented to full-time with an additional 50% appointment as scientific staff

** WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR**
- You hold a degree of Master in Medicine. The degree requirement needs to be fulfilled at the start of your appointment.
- For diplomas awarded outside the European Union, a certificate of equivalence (NARIC) must be submitted.
- You are interested in academic and/or project-based research and services.
- You aim to specialize as a paediatrician, with a particular interest in Paediatric Cardiology.
- You have experience in stem cell research and hold a certificate in stem cell techniques Any teaching experience or participation in extra training, conferences, etc. is recommended.
- You have excellent teaching and communication skills.

** WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU**
- We offer you a two-year 50% appointment, which may be renewed twice for two years, on condition that the previous term was given a positive evaluation. Attention: If you have been previously appointed as a junior assistant or doctoral fellow at a university within the Flemish Community, this appointment will be deducted from the maximum term of appointment, which is six years at the most according to the Codex of Higher Education
- Your appointment will start on 1 January 2026 at the earliest.
