**Background**: **Teaching Assignment**: You will be part of the teaching teams for courses overseen by the Department of Mathematics and Statistics. Your teaching focus will be in the field of statistics. The specific teaching responsibilities are determined annually in consultation within the department. Teaching may occur in bachelor programs within the Faculty of Sciences, the Faculty of Business Economics, and/or the Faculty of Medicine and Life Sciences. **Research Assignment**: As an assistant, you will prepare a doctoral thesis in the fields of biostatistics, bioinformatics, epidemiology, mathematical statistics, or data science within the research group "Centre for Statistics" (CenStat). CenStat is the UHasselt entity of I-Biostat and part of the Data Sciences Institute. The specific theme of your doctoral research will be chosen in consultation with you. Besides preparing your thesis, you will present your research results in scientific publications and at (inter)national conferences. You will also participate in the ‘Doctoral School of Sciences & Technology’. - You hold a master's degree in statistics or mathematics (or equivalent). Final-year students are also encouraged to apply. - You are collegial and can work well in a team. - You enjoy teaching and can motivate students. - You are proficient in written and oral communication in Dutch and English. - You can clearly present and report project results. - You have research interests in statistics or data sciences. - Dutch is the language of instruction at Hasselt University. If your Dutch proficiency (ERK level B2) is not sufficient at the time of appointment, it is expected that you will reach the required level within 5 years or at the time of appointment.
