We are seeking an experienced Senior Java Developer to support a major digital transformation initiative within one of Belgium's most prominent banking institutions.Logistics:Position: Freelance Senior Java DeveloperDuration: 12-month rolling contract (extensions expected)Location: Brussels (Hybrid - 2 days on-site per week)Start Date: 1st of JanDay Rate: €(Competitive & Negotiable)Languages: English (Dutch or French is a plus)Key Responsibilities:Design, develop, and maintain robust backend services using Java (Spring Framework)Translate functional requirements into clean, high-quality, maintainable codeBuild and secure RESTful APIs and integrate with third-party systemsEvolve and migrate legacy systems into modern Java-based platformsCollaborate closely with analysts, testers, and fellow developers in an Agile squadDrive performance, reliability, and security through unit testing, code reviews, and refactoringParticipate in CI/CD pipelines and help shape DevOps best practicesContribute to a culture of clean code, pair programming, and continuous improvementIdeal Candidate:4+ years of professional experience in Java backend developmentStrong grasp of Object-Oriented Programming, SOLID principles, and domain-driven designExperience with Spring, Maven, Oracle DB, and REST APIsFamiliarity with tools like Git, Jenkins, SonarQube, Fortify, and NexusIQProactive communicator who enjoys collaborative problem-solving in Agile teamsCommitted to writing readable, testable, and maintainable code (TDD experience is a plus)Experience with code reviews, pair programming, and Scrum methodologiesStrong sense of ownership and eagerness to contribute to team successDesirable:Experience with modern CI/CD and DevSecOps pipelinesBackground in regulated sectors such as banking, insurance, or telecomKnowledge of containerization, cloud deployments, or large-scale integrationsExposure to event-driven systems, although not mandatoryInterested in shaping the future of digital banking infrastructure?
