Freelance Rockwell Automation Engineer (ControlLogix / Studio 5000) – Ghent–BruggeFor an industrial production environment in the Ghent / Brugge region, we are looking for a senior Freelance Automation Engineer with strong Rockwell Automation expertise to take ownership of the automation scope across complex production line projects.This role is Rockwell-centric and suited to engineers who have acted as the technical reference for ControlLogix-based systems, supplier validation, and on-site commissioning.Your roleOwn the full Rockwell automation scope within multidisciplinary project teamsAct as technical reference for Rockwell standards, architecture, and motion controlReport functionally to the Lead Engineer and hierarchically to the Automation Engineering ManagerPrepare RFQs, support tendering, and manage supplier interfaces together with procurementDefine automation and safety strategies, including:Rockwell-based production line and OT network architectureMachine-to-machine and upstream system interfacingSafety zoning and machine safety conceptsValidate supplier compliance with internal automation standards during:Contract phaseDetailed design and executionCommissioning and start-upHands-on support during commissioning, troubleshooting, and optimisation phasesRequired expertise (non-negotiable)Rockwell Automation: ControlLogix, Studio 5000, Kinetix – mandatory & core to the roleCommissioning and troubleshooting of Rockwell-based production linesOT networks: industrial switching, VLANs, machine communicationMachine Directive & CE complianceElectrical safety standards (EN 60204-1)Field cabling and on-site industrial commissioning experienceNice to haveSiemens automation experience (TIA Portal, S7)Experience working with multiple OEMs and system integratorsLanguage & mobilityDutch-speaking engineers strongly preferredEnglish required for technical documentation and international stakeholdersWillingness to travel abroad for short assignments (typically 2–3 weeks)Contract detailsFreelance / Contract – 6 months + extensionFull-time, project-based assignmentLocation: Ghent–Brugge region (on-site presence required)If this role isn't the right fit, feel free to reach out — we are supporting several Rockwell-focused automation projects across Belgium and can discuss alternatives on a call.
