Who are we looking for?

We are looking for a talented Legal Counsel Data Protection with strong legal expertise, business curiosity and a pragmatic mindset. In this part-time role, you will act as a trusted privacy and legal partner to the business, providing practical data protection advice and helping stakeholders navigate privacy, GDPR and related regulatory challenges in a dynamic international environment.

As part of our Legal & Compliance team, you will contribute to protecting the rights of customers, employees and business partners while supporting the continued growth, innovation and compliance of Brussels Airlines and the Lufthansa Group.

Curious what your responsibilities would look like?

• Provide clear, pragmatic and risk-based data protection advice to business stakeholders on projects, initiatives and operational activities involving personal data.
• Support and coordinate data subject rights requests, including access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection and data portability requests.
• Review new and existing processing activities for compliance with GDPR, applicable privacy legislation and internal policies and support departments in identifying privacy risks and implementing appropriate mitigation measures.
• Advise on privacy notices, consent mechanisms, data sharing arrangements, retention practices and privacy-by-design requirements.
• Contribute to the maintenance and continuous improvement of Brussels Airlines’ Record of Processing Activities and related privacy governance documentation.
• Assist with data protection impact assessments, legitimate interest assessments, compliance reviews and privacy-related legal assessments.
• Support awareness, training and process improvement initiatives that help foster a strong privacy culture across the organisation.
• Support alignment with Lufthansa Group standards and policies.

Where do you land?

You’ll be part of the Legal & Compliance Department, a team that goes beyond legal support and acts as a true business partner to the company.

You will report hierarchically to the Head of Legal & Compliance and functionally to the Data Protection Coordinator. In this role, you will work closely with the Data Protection Coordinator and internal stakeholders across all areas of the business to support the Company's data protection and compliance objectives.

Your profile

• Master’s degree in law.
• 3 to 5 years of experience as a lawyer at a reputable law firm and/or as in-house counsel in an international company, preferably with a strong focus on data protection, privacy or compliance.
• Strong working knowledge of GDPR and practical experience applying privacy principles in a business environment.
• Experience with data subject rights requests, Records of Processing Activities, privacy notices, data sharing arrangements and retention practices.
• Experience in aviation, transport, regulated industries or complex commercial environments is a strong asset.
• Excellent drafting and presentation skills.
• Excellent organisational and communication skills.
• Excellent analytical skills with strong attention to detail.
• The ability to work independently and collaboratively as a team player.
• The ability to learn quickly and show initiative.
• Strong legal judgement and ability to advise on complex privacy matters with limited supervision.
• Commercially minded, solution-oriented and comfortable balancing legal and data protection risk with business objectives.
• Strong sense of ownership, discretion and resilience.
• Interest in privacy governance, legal operations, process improvement and digitalisation.
• Fluent in English; knowledge of Dutch, French or German is a strong asset.
• Note that this is a part-time position.
