Business Actuary – Life Insurance

Within the Insurance division, whose mission is to ensure the profitability, development and sale of our products and services and to steer our life insurance portfolio, the  Business Change & Monitoring Department steers the Life Insurance business through numerical analyses, provides technical support by carrying out the necessary technical and actuarial studies and analyses business projects with an IT impact.

Your responsibilities

As Business Actuary specialized in life insurance, you will be responsible for carrying out recurring actuarial activities as well as specific projects.

This includes business inputs for financial closings, portfolio monitoring, policy calculations, pricing offers support and legal declarations.

Your responsibilities therefore include:

• Prepare financial, reinsurance, regulatory, and business reports related to closing activities.

• Ensure data readiness for closings, including:

  • Managing and validating reserves and policy calculations.

  • Identifying and fixing data quality issues.

  • Providing technical support to managers through calculations.

• Provide business assumptions for Solvency and IFRS reporting.

• Monitor the Life Insurance portfolio, by:

  • Conducting technical analysis of portfolio trends.

  • Contributing to budget and target setting as part of the strategic planning process.

• Improve processes through automation, simplification, and standardization.

• Support Life Insurance operations, including:

  • Performing and reviewing calculations (premiums, reserves, capital) for individual and group policies.

  • Building and maintaining calculation tools (Excel, SAS, etc.).

  • Creating and updating models for budgeting, projections, reinsurance, and provisioning.

  • Assisting with pricing and evaluating commercial offers.

• Participate in cross-functional projects across the organization.

Your profile

• You have a master’s degree, preferably in mathematics, actuarial sciences or economics.

• You have at least 5 years’ experience in a similar position, ideally in life insurance, reinsurance or bank investment products.

• You are a Dutch or French speaker with a good command of the other national language and can work effectively in English.

• You have an analytical mind coupled with the necessary capacity for abstraction to understand results/figures and formulate recommendations. 

• You are able to present your analyses effectively, simply and clearly to all the interested parties, including Senior Management.

• You have Excel (VBA) at your fingertips and are comfortable with Powerpoint.

• You have a good command of at least one database query language (SAS, SQL); knowledge of Power BI or PowerQuery is a  plus.

• You are flexible and able to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.

• You are autonomous and take initiatives.

• You have a critical mind and are always looking to improve on what already exists.

• You naturally have a team spirit.
