We are looking for an experienced Cloud DBA Engineer to join its Database Services team. The team is responsible for the design, implementation, optimisation, automation, and operational management of database platforms supporting business-critical applications developed in-house.
This role will play a key part in the further industrialisation and support of client’s cloud database services, with a strong focus on Azure SQL Database and Azure Cosmos DB. The successful candidate will combine deep database expertise with cloud engineering and automation capabilities, while also acting as a mentor and coach for more junior team members.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, deploy, administer, and optimise cloud-based database environments.
- Ensure the availability, performance, scalability, and security of Azure database platforms.
- Support and further industrialise the operational model for Azure Cosmos DB.
- Manage and optimise Azure SQL Database environments.
- Develop and maintain Infrastructure-as-Code solutions using Terraform.
- Automate database administration and operational activities through PowerShell and other scripting tools.
- Monitor database health, performance, capacity, and resilience.
- Collaborate closely with application development teams throughout the software lifecycle.
- Contribute to database architecture and cloud platform best practices.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex incidents and performance issues.
- Coach and support junior engineers within the team.
- Share knowledge and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
Required Experience:
Minimum 5+ years of experience as a DBA, Database Engineer, Cloud Database Engineer, or similar role.
Strong hands-on experience with:
- Azure SQL Database
- Azure Cosmos DB
- Microsoft SQL Server
- Experience deploying and managing cloud-native database platforms.
- Proven experience with Infrastructure as Code using Terraform.
- Strong automation and scripting skills using PowerShell.
- Experience working in complex enterprise environments with multiple stakeholders.
- Understanding of database performance tuning, backup/recovery, security, and operational excellence.
- Experience supporting business-critical production environments.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in large financial services, insurance, banking, or other highly regulated environments.
- Knowledge of DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.
- Familiarity with Azure governance, monitoring, and cost optimisation.
- Experience supporting database modernisation and cloud migration initiatives.
- Microsoft Azure certifications are considered an asset.
