Location: Ypres + abroad from time to time
Contract Type: Permanent
Salary:  Circa EUR 42000 per annum
Hours: Full Time 37 hours per week

About this Role and You

At the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC), you will help maintain and restore military cemeteries and memorials across Belgium, the Netherlands, France, and Germany. You will be part of a specialist team that contributes every day to preserving a unique piece of international heritage.

No experience as a stonemason or restoration specialist? No problem. We will teach you the skills of the trade.

You will be able to demonstrate

Together with your colleagues, you will be responsible for the maintenance and restoration of our sites:

* Cleaning, repointing, bronze restoration, and painting works
* Engraving, repairing, and installing headstones
* Restoring and repairing natural stone
* Reconstructing walls, pathways, and other heritage structures
* Carrying out restoration works on historic walls and monuments, mainly in the Ypres region

During the spring and summer months, you will regularly work outside West Flanders or Belgium. This may involve staying on location for one to two weeks at a time.

Who you are 

* You enjoy working outdoors.
* You are practical-minded and physically capable of carrying out maintenance and restoration work.
* You work accurately and pay attention to detail.
* You are eager to learn new techniques.
* You are a true team player.
* You hold a Category B driving licence.
* Experience in construction, maintenance, or restoration is an asset but not required.
* You are willing to work away from home regularly during the spring and summer months.
