Service description:

  • The Project Engineer Substations will work on the electrical infrastructure projects (380, 220, 150, 70 and 36 kV) concerning high-voltage substations or lines.

As a Project Engineer, you are the key figure between the Project Leader and the engineering firm, where you are responsible for the technical elaboration of projects within a multidisciplinary team. You guarantee the coherence and quality of the design and monitor the functionality of the project. You take proactive measures to ensure that the project is delivered according to the predetermined schedule and scope.
This includes the following:

  • You will work in close collaboration with the Project Leader and with fellow Project Engineers. The Project Engineer has a technical focus, the Project Leader an organizational focus within a project.
  • You are actively involved in the entire project process, from feasibility study (conceptual) to project closure. You are a key figure between the design team, the technical experts and the Project Leader.
    • You will contribute to the technical elaboration of the scope and design of the projects, where you will carry out various preparatory technical studies.
    • You have a leading role within the engineering team, where you ensure a good integration of the different domains into a coherent solution.
      • To do this, you manage the interfaces between different domains
      • To this end, you follow up on the engineering planning and coordinate it with the Project Leader.
    • During the detailed study, you supervise the design team and ensure that the studies are carried out qualitatively and according to the agreed scope.
    • During the implementation phase, you will assist the Project Leader with technical support.
  • You communicate and report on the progress of the project.


Within the Engineering department, there are several Project Engineering (PE) disciplines, each with its own technical specificity:

  • PE Substation

(subject of this vacancy): with a focus on HV components within the substation and the utilities (building equipment) and distribution of the low-voltage power supply (400Vac and 110Vdc).

  • OR PAC

: with a focus on protection and automation systems

  • PE Lines

: with a focus on high-voltage lines and pylons for the connections between substation.

  • PE Civil Works

: with a focus on civil engineering


The PE SUB ensures the integration of these different fields, systems and processes within a project. To this end, we are looking for someone with:

  • Analytical skills and strong conceptual brainpower, capable of understanding complex problems and developing solutions within the applicable norms and standards. In doing so, he must take into account various aspects such as safety, feasibility, maintainability, etc.
  • Sufficient maturity to lead coordination meetings between different disciplines, and to act as a point of contact from the Engineering department towards our internal customer.
     
  • Depending on the experience, these tasks are taken on autonomously or under supervision. Client has a very extensive training package.
  • The Project Engineer Substation will be active within the Infrastructure Projects department.
  • After the training period, the service will be able to be carried out in remote operation three days a week. The projects and associated sites are divided into 4 geographical areas (NE, NW, SE and SW. The work can therefore be optimally organised between the site sites (which must be visited in the preparation and construction phase), the office (in Schaerbeek) and the home.

This vacancy concerns projects in the NO region.
Additional requirements:

  • Master's degree in electrical engineering or electromechanics or equivalent through experience and strong interest in technology
  • Technical experience within the high-voltage domain is a plus
  • Excellent knowledge of Dutch is a requirement, as this will be the working language of the projects.
  • Interest in the energy sector.
  • Strong sense of responsibility, outspoken organizational talent.
  • Communication skills with a smooth assertiveness and that is customer-oriented.
  • Team player with a good dose of ingenuity.
  • Independent movement for occasional site visits throughout Belgium.
