About the Role

RELYzIT Talent is seeking an elite Automation Expert specializing in Operational Technology (OT) for a freelance assignment with our client in Antwerp, Belgium. This is a 24-month, on-site project at the heart of maritime infrastructure, where your expertise will directly impact the safety, efficiency, and modernization of critical bridge and lock systems. What You’ll Be Doing

  • Managing and maintaining OT systems for bridge and lock controls in a complex, business-critical environment.
  • Implementing and advancing cybersecurity measures in line with NIS and NIS2 directives across all automation systems.
  • Updating, patching, and securing PLCs, IO systems, sensors, PCs, SCADA software, engineering tools, OPC (Kepware), speed controllers, UPS, and variable traffic signs.
  • Programming and modifying PLC and SCADA systems to ensure optimal performance and resilience.
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver robust, future-proof automation solutions.
  • Ensuring full compliance with regulatory frameworks and service continuity requirements.
  • Providing hands-on support for installation, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of automation installations.
  • Operating fully on-site within a highly regulated, mission-critical environment.

Technical Skills & Experience

  • Expert-level experience with Siemens Step 7 Classic: HW config setup, communication with other systems, netpro.
  • Senior-level experience with Siemens Step 7 Classic: redundant PLC systems 400H (FH).
  • Medior to senior experience with Siemens TIA Portal: setting up hardware systems, network topology, and system connections.
  • Medior to senior experience with Siemens WinCC V7/8 (minimum version 7.4): HW config setup for redundant systems, PLC system connections, Station configurator.
  • Expertise in Siemens Industrial Networking: configuring Siemens switches, VLANs, industrial firewalls, VPNs, bridging, and routing.
  • Hands-on experience with OPC (Kepware), speed controllers, UPS, and variable traffic signs.
  • Proven track record in maintaining and securing critical industrial automation systems in high-tech, regulated environments.

Language Proficiency

  • Fluent Dutch (spoken and written) is mandatory.
  • Technical English proficiency is required.

Other Requirements

  • Master’s degree in electromechanics, automation, or equivalent through proven experience (required).
  • Completed template document (required).
  • Full on-site presence in Antwerp, Belgium, is mandatory for the duration of the assignment.
  • Ability to work within a highly regulated, mission-critical environment.
  • Experience in maritime or critical infrastructure environments is a strong plus.
