SAP/ABAP Developer

As a Developer

• Based on functional specifications or discussions with functional analysts upstream of the project, proposes solutions or challenges the proposed solutions and provides the corresponding workload estimates.
• Based on functional specifications, drafts and/or completes the technical specifications using the provided document templates. Ensures that approval is obtained from the functional analyst before any development work begins. Ensures that the solution complies with Client's technical architecture.
• Analyzes and implements SAP Notes.
• Develops the required code while ensuring compliance with application standards, naming conventions, best practice guidelines (SAP and Client), and, more generally, Client's governance rules. In particular, ensures that the quality assurance checks implemented in the ABAP Test Cockpit are executed and that all necessary corrections are made to achieve compliance.
• During development, ensures in particular that the code is as modular as possible, that existing code libraries are reused whenever appropriate, and that developments are written using Object-Oriented ABAP (except where an agreed exception applies).
• During development, ensures that any deviation from the technical specifications is discussed again and formally agreed upon with the functional analyst.
• During development, works closely with Client's SAP Basis (SAP-BC) team, which is responsible for authorizations, infrastructure, and the technical configuration of SAP systems.
• Executes unit tests based on the test datasets provided by the relevant functional analyst and documents them thoroughly. In particular, ensures the completeness of the tests performed and the coverage of required non-functional tests such as performance testing, query optimization, mass processing tests, and technical connectivity tests. Identifies and communicates any specific points of attention that functional analysts should focus on during their own testing activities.
• May be required to perform tasks during the deployment of developed solutions to test, acceptance, or production environments. This may require work outside normal business hours.
• Analyzes reported defects (identified during test campaigns or in production incidents) and resolves them after consultation with the relevant functional analyst.
• Based on the technical specifications and the implemented solution, prepares the corresponding technical documentation for each developed object using the provided document templates.

As a Senior Developer, more advanced and specialized assignments may be entrusted by the Team Lead or the Technical Manager. These may include, but are not limited to, the following activities:

• Develop solutions for particularly complex and/or highly specialized topics requiring extensive expertise and seniority.
• In collaboration with the SAP Basis (SAP-BC) team, analyze and implement Non-Functional Requirements (NFRs) across various areas, including security, reliability and availability, performance analysis and tuning, maintainability, operability, compatibility between different component versions, and related topics.
• Act as a technical reference point and Single Point of Contact (SPOC) for the team on specific complex technical subjects.
• Assist the Team Lead in defining, implementing, and improving development frameworks and standards.
• Support the Team Lead and functional analysts in designing new cross-functional and enterprise-wide solutions.
• Assist the Team Lead in evaluating, selecting, and introducing new technologies and tools.
• Contribute expertise and share knowledge and experience with the team on topics related to ongoing projects.
• Mentor and coach junior developers during both the technical specification phase and the implementation of solutions.

Context

Technical Context (=SAP Developpement Team Organization)

• The Senior SAP Developer will work under a time-and-materials engagement model and will join the AMMO team.
• The AMMO team, which consists of project managers, functional analysts, and SAP developers, is responsible for both corrective and evolutionary maintenance of the applications within its portfolio, as well as the delivery of a wide range of new projects within its area of responsibility. Examples include:
• Project aimed at enabling remote connection and remote power modulation capabilities for smart devices.
• Project consisting in analysing, evaluating and implementing S/4HANA improvements.
• The SAP IS-U development team, currently composed of five members including the Technical Team Lead, operates as a shared development pool. This pool serves all development needs of the AMMO team. Developers are generally not assigned exclusively to a specific project. Instead, work is allocated at a finer level of granularity, consisting of a coherent development work package such as:
• An interface or integration associated with the development of a specific program.
• The implementation of a BAdI together with the creation of a custom Z-table and several object-oriented classes.
• Any other self-contained development component.
• Each assignment is owned end-to-end by the developer throughout the entire change lifecycle, from technical specifications to the documentation of the delivered objects.

Task allocation is performed by the Technical Team Lead based on several factors, including:

• Current business priorities and workload.
• Resource availability.
• Individual skills and expertise.
• Seniority level of each developer.
• Team capacity and planning considerations.
• Once an assignment has been allocated, the developer receives detailed requirements and guidance from a functional analyst, who is responsible for monitoring activities and deliverables. The Technical Team Lead, in turn, ensures the technical consistency of proposed solutions and verifies compliance with the applicable quality standards.
• It is within this development team operating model that Client intends to integrate the SAP IS-U Developer under a time-and-materials engagement.
