Intro
Join RELYzIT Talent as a Game Development Programmer for a high-impact, 4-month freelance assignment in Belgium. You’ll be embedded with our client’s national Expertise Centre for CUAS, XR & Robotics, helping to shape the next generation of XR training simulators for police, Defense, Customs, and security services. This is your opportunity to build solutions that directly enhance the safety and preparedness of critical organizations.

What You’ll Be Doing
- Develop, implement, and maintain XR simulator systems and mechanics using Unity and C#, tailored to the training needs of special forces and police.
- Write clean, maintainable, and efficient C# code, applying debugging and optimization techniques to maximize simulator performance.
- Collaborate closely with end users, 3D artists, designers, and fellow programmers to ensure authentic, scenario-driven XR experiences.
- Implement core XR training features, interactive elements, and scenarios that mirror real-world challenges faced by security professionals.
- Identify and resolve performance issues to ensure smooth operation across various XR platforms.
- Rapidly prototype and iterate on XR training features and scenarios, refining the user experience based on feedback and testing.
- Maintain clear, up-to-date documentation of XR code, systems, and processes to support knowledge sharing within the team and with partners.
- Stay current with industry trends and emerging XR technologies, applying new tools and techniques to enhance simulator development.

Technical Skills & Experience
- Proficiency in C# programming and Unity game development, with a focus on XR (VR, AR, MR) applications.
- Demonstrated experience developing games and/or XR simulators for training and simulation, supported by a comprehensive portfolio.
- Solid understanding of game design principles and a passion for creating authentic, high-impact XR training experiences.
- Knowledge of XR technologies, physics, mathematics, and algorithms as applied to simulator development.
- Experience with 3D scanning and digital reconstruction (LIDAR, photogrammetry) is a plus.
- Familiarity with operational training environments or previous experience with police, Defense, or security services is an advantage.
- Experience working with 3D scans and optimizing them for XR environments is beneficial.
Language Proficiency
- Professional proficiency in Dutch, French, and/or English is required.
Other Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Game Development, or a related field, OR several years of proven industry experience with a strong portfolio.
- Ability to work on-site in Belgium as part of a multidisciplinary team within the Expertise Centre.
- Experience collaborating in cross-functional teams, including with operational end users and academic partners.
About the Role
- This is a freelance position for a duration of 4 months, based in Belgium.
- You will be part of the XR core team within the Expertise Centre, reporting functionally to the XR Lab and working closely with programmers, 3D artists, project managers, and operational end users.
- No remote work is available for this assignment.
