Why This Role Matters (Mission & Outcomes)

As a DevOps Engineer, you will be instrumental in supporting and evolving the cloud infrastructure that underpins large-scale earth observation projects. Your work will directly enable the processing and analysis of massive satellite and drone datasets, driving insights that address global societal and economic issues. The stakes are high: your contributions will help ensure operational excellence, security, and scalability for platforms that improve our understanding of the planet.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Provide expert support for DevOps and project-related issues, ensuring seamless operations across complex environments.
• Take shared ownership of operational infrastructure, collaborating closely with a high-performing team.
• Resolve internal project tickets with a focus on configuration management and infrastructure as code.
• Deploy and support new software stack components in both on-premise and public cloud environments.
• Analyze and troubleshoot complex problems using advanced monitoring, logging, and metrics tools; proactively identify and implement efficiency improvements.
• Gradually assume ownership of specific components within the software stack, driving continuous improvement.
• Escalate critical issues internally or externally when necessary to ensure rapid resolution.
• Implement and uphold security best practices throughout the infrastructure lifecycle.
• Collaborate with IT architects and engineers to design and optimize robust solutions.
• Champion operational excellence and reliability in all aspects of infrastructure management.

Technical Skills & Experience

• Demonstrable experience in Agile and/or DevOps environments (must have).
• Expertise in Kubernetes environments and writing Helm charts (must have).
• Strong background in Linux native environments (CentOS, RedHat, Alma Linux) (must have).
• Senior-level experience with cloud applications (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) (must have).
• Proven experience with ICT infrastructure solutions (must have).
• In-depth knowledge of cybersecurity best practices for cloud environments (must have).
• Hands-on experience with Terraform, ArgoCD, and Jenkins (must have).
• Master’s degree in applied IT, Industrial Sciences, IT, or equivalent (must have).
• Experience in virtualization technologies (AWS, Azure, Docker, VMWare, OpenStack, etc.) (should have).
• Experience with migration projects (should have).
• Experience in distributed processing (e.g., Apache Spark, Dask) (nice to have).
• Python and Golang experience (nice to have).

Language Proficiency

• Dutch at European CEFR level C2 (must have).
• Excellent command of English (must have).

Other Requirements

• Freelance position: 6-month contract, based in Mol, Belgium.
