About the Role

You will lead the verification and validation of new and modified software, combining deep technical know-how with a builder’s mindset. As both a test analyst and test automator, you will design, execute, and optimize manual and automated tests, ensuring every release meets the highest standards. You will collaborate closely with business analysts, project managers, and technical teams, driving quality at every stage of the SDLC.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze requirements and review all relevant documentation to define comprehensive test scenarios
• Consult with business analysts, project managers, and test coordinators to clarify ambiguities
• Prepare structured, accurate test scenarios and define minimum test requirements within set timelines
• Apply advanced test methodologies (ISTQB, TMap) and techniques across V-Model, Agile, and Iterative SDLCs
• Develop, maintain, and execute both manual and automated test cases using tools such as Selenium, IntelliJ, and TestNG
• Prepare and manage test data for various scenarios, including regression testing
• Proactively identify and communicate bottlenecks to optimize the test process
• Participate actively in working groups and meetings, providing input for test analysis and execution plans
• Monitor and report on test progress daily, ensuring transparency and accountability
• Coach colleagues on test tool usage and best practices
• Record, analyze, and report test results, including root cause analysis and defect management
• Assess system usability and production readiness of releases
• Maintain up-to-date manual and automated test scenarios, adapting to feedback and evolving requirements
• Ensure compliance with organizational standards, values, and procedures

Technical Skills & Tools

• Expertise in functional integration and user acceptance testing
• Advanced knowledge of test automation and test methodologies (ISTQB, TMap)
• Minimum 5 years’ experience testing large, business-critical applications
• Proficient in Java (Medior level)
• Hands-on experience with Selenium (Medior level), IntelliJ, Jenkins, GitLab, and TestNG
• Familiarity with JIRA, Confluence, SharePoint, SoapUI, and Teams
• Strong understanding of architecture, databases, and SQL Developer
• Experience with business processes, requirements analysis, use cases, and user interfaces
• Proficient in MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook (or similar)
• Knowledge of web services (XML, XSD, WSDL) and test tools such as XRay

Language Proficiency

• Fluency in Dutch at European CEFR level C2 is mandatory

Other Requirements

• Demonstrable experience as a senior test specialist in large-scale environments
• Higher education (Master or Bachelor) in a technical/engineering field or equivalent experience
• ISTQB certification (preferred)
• Strong communication skills with internal project teams
• Ability to work flexibly between Brussels and Aalst; up to 3 days remote per week (subject to project needs)
• Proven ownership, accountability, and a proactive approach to problem-solving
• Ability to deliver high-quality work under pressure, with attention to detail and systematic planning
• Adaptability to changing objectives and priorities, with a focus on continuous improvement and knowledge sharing

• Experience working within Agile, V-Model, and Iterative SDLCs

Freelance Opportunity

This is a freelance position for a 6-month project based in Brussels (Schaerbeek) and Aalst, Belgium.
