About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Application Architect (Freelance) to join our client’s mission-critical team in Brussels for a 10-month engagement. This is a unique opportunity to architect and elevate enterprise-grade Java and Angular solutions that directly impact business outcomes. What You’ll Be Doing

• Architecting and designing enterprise Java and Angular applications, both enhancing legacy systems and building new solutions from the ground up
• Leading and mentoring a team of Java developers, defining and distributing tasks, and organizing code reviews to ensure best practices
• Translating complex business needs into coherent, scalable architectural visions across multiple business domains
• Driving continuous improvement by proposing and implementing technical enhancements
• Ensuring seamless integration within existing teams and fostering a collaborative, builder-driven culture
• Championing security best practices, including OAuth-based authentication
• Applying Agile/Scrum methodologies and leveraging tools such as Jira for project delivery
• Collaborating with stakeholders to align technical solutions with business objectives

Technical Skills

• Java EE / Jakarta EE – 10 years (Expert)
• RDBMS & SQL (PostgreSQL preferred) – 10 years (Expert)
• JPA – 10 years
• REST APIs – 8 years (Confirmed)
• Security via OAuth – 3 years (Confirmed)
• Angular (version 21) – 5 years (Confirmed)
• Spring / Spring Boot – 5 years (Confirmed)
• Kafka – Confirmed experience
• Hexagonal Architecture – Confirmed
• Application Architecture – Confirmed
• Agile Scrum, Jira – Confirmed

What We’re Looking For

• Proven leadership in architecting and delivering complex Java and Angular solutions
• Exceptional abstraction and problem-solving skills, with the ability to propose and implement impactful improvements
• Strong ownership mindset and a passion for building high-quality, future-proof systems
• Experience integrating into and elevating existing development teams
• Ability to communicate architectural vision clearly to both technical and business stakeholders
• Commitment to continuous learning and sharing knowledge within the team

Language Proficiency

• Fluency in French or Dutch required
• Minimum working knowledge of the second national language (French or Dutch)

Other Requirements

• Belgian nationality required due to project legal obligations
• Partial remote work possible; on-site presence in Brussels as needed
• Freelance contract – 10 months
