HEAL is the leading not-for-profit organisation addressing how our environment affects health in the European Union and beyond. Supported by over 65 member organisations, HEAL brings independent and expert scientific evidence from the health community to European and global decision-making processes to inspire disease prevention strategies.
Our Health and Chemicals team works to phase out the most harmful pesticides and to strengthen health protection across Europe. We monitor and engage with EU regulatory processes on the approval, authorisation, use and phasing out of pesticides, critically review the scientific evidence and regulatory assessments of their health impacts, and develop advocacy strategies to improve the implementation of EU pesticides legislation and reduce pesticide dependency.
Are you our new Senior Science and Policy Officer, Health and Pesticides?
As our new Senior Science and Policy Officer, Health and Pesticides, you’ll lead HEAL’s science and policy work on pesticides and health. Working closely with the Programme Lead, Health and Chemicals, you’ll monitor and critically review the scientific evidence and EU hazard and risk assessments (including EFSA conclusions and ECHA opinions), provide strategic and technical input into EU regulatory processes, develop and implement advocacy strategies, build relationships with key officials and stakeholders, and represent HEAL at events. You’ll also contribute to HEAL’s science-to-communication work, and to the capacity-building of HEAL members, health professionals and other health actors.

… holds a Master’s degree in a relevant scientific discipline (preferably toxicology, epidemiology, environmental health, chemistry or biology) and has at least 5 years of relevant work experience
… has sound knowledge of the regulatory assessment of pesticides and of the EU legal framework governing them, including the roles of EFSA, ECHA and the European Commission
… can make complex science accessible and persuasive for policy audiences, with experience of science policy and advocacy at EU level
