Compliance Officer – Private Equity
Location:
Belgium Employment Type: Full-time Level: Senior Languages: Dutch, French & English
About the Company
We are a newly established, fast-growing private equity company in Belgium, building an ambitious investment platform from the ground up. As we enter an exciting phase of growth, we are looking for a Senior Compliance Officer to take ownership of our compliance function and play a fundamental role in building the framework that will support the business as it scales. This is a greenfield opportunity. You will not be inheriting a mature compliance infrastructure — you will have the opportunity to design, implement and embed it from scratch, working closely with senior management and key stakeholders across the organisation. For the right person, this is an opportunity to have significant influence and visibility within a growing financial services business. The Role As Senior Compliance Officer, you will be responsible for establishing and developing the company's compliance framework, policies and controls in line with applicable Belgian and European regulatory requirements. You will act as a trusted advisor to the business, balancing regulatory requirements with commercial objectives and helping to establish a strong culture of compliance from the outset. Your responsibilities will include:
• Designing and implementing the company's compliance framework from the ground up.
• Developing and maintaining compliance policies, procedures, controls and monitoring programmes.
• Providing regulatory advice to senior management and the wider business.
• Ensuring compliance with applicable Belgian and European financial services regulation.
• Advising on and overseeing requirements relating to MiFID, UCITS and FSMA regulation.
• Establishing appropriate compliance monitoring and reporting frameworks.
• Identifying, assessing and managing regulatory and compliance risks.
• Developing appropriate processes around conflicts of interest, market conduct, AML/CFT, client protection, personal account dealing and other relevant compliance areas.
• Supporting the business in its engagement with the FSMA and other relevant regulatory authorities.
• Monitoring regulatory developments and assessing their impact on the business.
• Preparing compliance reports and providing regular updates to senior management and relevant governance committees.
• Working closely with Legal, Risk, Operations, Investment and senior leadership teams.
• Helping to establish a strong compliance culture across the organisation as the company grows.
• Advising on new products, investment strategies, structures and business initiatives from a regulatory perspective.
• Supporting regulatory applications, licensing requirements and the development of the firm's governance structure.
• Building scalable compliance processes that are appropriate for a rapidly growing investment business. About You We are looking for an experienced compliance professional who enjoys building rather than simply maintaining. You will ideally have:
• Significant experience in compliance within the financial services / investment management / asset management / private equity sector.
• Strong practical knowledge of MiFID, UCITS and FSMA requirements.
• Experience working with Belgian and European financial services regulation.
• A proven ability to design and implement compliance frameworks, policies and controls.
• Experience operating at a senior level and advising senior management.
• Strong regulatory judgement and the ability to translate complex regulatory requirements into practical business solutions.
• Experience dealing with regulators and regulatory examinations or interactions.
• A pragmatic, commercially minded approach to compliance.
• The ability to work independently and take ownership of the compliance function.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• A hands-on mindset and the ability to operate effectively in a fast-moving, entrepreneurial environment. Languages Fluency in Dutch, French and English is essential.
What We Offer
This is a rare opportunity to join a new and rapidly growing private equity business at an early stage and have a meaningful impact on its development. You will have:
• The opportunity to build a compliance function from scratch.
• Significant autonomy, ownership and visibility with senior leadership.
• The opportunity to shape the regulatory and governance framework of a growing investment platform.
• A dynamic, entrepreneurial and international working environment.
• Exposure to senior decision-makers and a broad range of investment and business activities.
• The opportunity to grow with the company as it expands.
• A competitive salary and benefits package, commensurate with your experience and seniority. Why Join? If you are looking for a role where you can apply your regulatory expertise while genuinely building something, rather than stepping into an established compliance function, this is an exciting opportunity. You will be joining at a pivotal stage in the company's development and will have the opportunity to shape how compliance, governance and regulatory risk management evolve as the business grows.
