Our client is looking for an experienced Freelance GitLab Platform Engineer to further strengthen, secure, and professionalize its business-critical GitLab platform.
Location:
Antwerp GitLab is an essential platform for the development and infrastructure teams. In this hands-on role, you will ensure that the platform becomes more secure, stable, and easier to manage. You will improve automation and actively share your knowledge with the internal engineering teams.
Location:
Antwerp – 2 days per week onsite Start: ASAP Duration: At least until the end of 2026, with possible extension during the first half of 2027 Languages: Dutch and English Your Responsibilities
• Further strengthen and secure the GitLab platform, with particular focus on accounts, tokens, credentials, variables, and access management.
• Improve monitoring, logging, and alerting to increase platform stability and reliability.
• Evaluate and optimize GitLab CI/CD, runners, and the container registry.
• Support GitLab upgrades, patching, and lifecycle management.
• Automate and document platform management and configurations.
• Work closely with Cloud, Infrastructure, Security, Architecture, and Development teams.
• Act as the GitLab expert and actively share knowledge with internal engineers.
• Reduce dependency on individual experts through effective knowledge transfer and clear documentation.
• Contribute to the future evolution of the platform, including a potential migration to GitLab SaaS or a managed GitLab solution.
Your Profile
• Strong hands-on experience with GitLab Self-Managed, GitLab Premium, and GitLab CI/CD.
• In-depth knowledge of GitLab security and platform hardening.
• Experience managing and securing accounts, tokens, credentials, variables, and access rights.
• Good knowledge of Linux, Kubernetes, monitoring, and logging.
• Experience troubleshooting business-critical platforms.
• Experience with automation and Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
• Practical knowledge of technologies such as Terraform, Ansible, Bash, and Python.
• Experience with AWS and GitLab SaaS migrations is considered an advantage.
• Hands-on, pragmatic, and capable of working independently.
• Willing to actively share knowledge and collaborate effectively with different technical teams. Why This Assignment?
