· Full-time About Mantis Robotics Mantis Robotics builds systems that work safely alongside people, to make robotic automation accessible to anyone. Safety is only as good as the perception behind it: that's where you come in. The role You'll push the science behind how our robots see and understand the humans around them: perception, sensor fusion, and learning-based methods that turn raw sensor data into safe, real-time decisions. This is applied research with a direct line to shipped products.
What you'll do
• Design and train models for human detection, pose/motion estimation, and proximity awareness in dynamic industrial scenes.
• Develop sensor-fusion pipelines across different type of sensors.
• Get models running in real time on constrained/edge hardware: accuracy that survives contact with the factory floor.
• Partner with control, firmware, and safety teams to fold perception into the safety architecture.
• Prototype fast, evaluate rigorously, and set the standard for how we measure perception performance. What skills are needed?
• Strong foundations in machine learning and computer vision (detection, segmentation, tracking, 3D perception, point clouds).
• Fluency in Python and deep-learning frameworks (PyTorch and/or TensorFlow).
• Sensor fusion and probabilistic estimation (Kalman/particle filters, multi-sensor calibration).
• Real-time and edge inference: quantization, optimization, and deployment on embedded/GPU targets.
• Clear scientific communication and a rigorous, data-driven mindset. Which experience is needed?
• MS or PhD in Computer Science, Robotics, EE, Applied Math, or a related field — or equivalent industry track record.
• Demonstrated experience building perception or ML systems that made it into real products or robots.
• Bonus: publications in top ML/CV/robotics venues, experience with safety-critical or industrial systems, or work with human-motion prediction. Why join Mantis?
• Work on perception where the stakes are real: your models keep people safe.
• Committed team with a short path from idea to deployment.
• Contribute to the future of the entire robotics industry.
