Senior Expert Electrical Grids and Energy Storage

Thnk E is looking for a Senior Expert in electrical grids and energy storage who wants to put that expertise at the service of the energy transition: in service contracts and studies for the European Commission, in consultancy for grid operators and companies, and in European, Belgian and Flemish studies. About Thnk E Thnk E is a fast-growing, multidisciplinary team of engineers, policy and legal experts and social scientists based in Leuven, Belgium. Since 2011 we help make the energy transition happen in a way that is fair and that works in practice. We work for the European Commission, for grid operators and companies, and in European research projects, with renowned international partners. Grids, storage and flexibility are at the heart of what we do. Position overview You are the technical lead for grids and storage at Thnk E: you deliver studies and assessments, you set the direction for this part of our work together with the management team, you represent Thnk E towards clients, consortium partners and the European Commission, and you make sure that what we deliver is technically and scientifically sound. You work within a professional team of project managers, engineers and policy experts. ‍ Qualifications
• A PhD in electrical engineering, energy engineering or a closely related field, or a master's degree in one of these fields combined with equivalent expertise.
• At least eight years in power systems, including several years of grid connection, grid impact or grid code compliance studies for renewables and storage, and experience in leading studies and analytical work.
• Experience with weak, isolated or island grids, mini-grids or hybrid PV plus storage systems is a strong asset.
• Experience in service contracts or studies for the European Commission and its agencies, or in European research and innovation projects (Horizon 2020, Horizon Europe), is a plus.
• Experience in writing proposals for EU calls or tenders is also a plus.
• Proficiency in English (C2 level). Other languages are a bonus.
• You feel at home in an international, interdisciplinary team.
• You live in Belgium, or you are ready to move here.
