Canopy is leading the way in reimagining home wellness with innovative products like humidifiers, showerheads, and diffusers. We believe your home environment is key to achieving beauty and wellness goals for the whole family. Our products are designed to make your space healthier and more enjoyable, without the hassle of traditional devices. Our mission is to provide expert-recommended, easy-to-use products that support glowing skin, better sleep, and a healthier home.
OVERVIEWAs Electrical Engineer in Hong Kong or Shenzhen, you will own the electronics in Canopy's products, from first schematic review to mass production. You will set electrical requirements, review designs with our factories' engineers, and run the electrical side of EVT, DVT, and PVT across humidifiers, air purifiers, diffusers, and new categories. Power and charging, motors and sensors, the electrical BOM, safety and EMC testing, and failure analysis sit with you. This is a hands-on role for an engineer who has shipped small consumer electronics, is happiest at the bench with a returned unit and a scope probe, and wants to build Canopy's electrical engineering from the ground up. You will partner daily with our US product development team and our Hong Kong manufacturing and quality team.
ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES
• ELECTRICAL DESIGN AND BOM OWNERSHIP: You will own the electronics in Canopy's products from the first schematic review through mass production. Most of our boards are designed with our contract manufacturers' engineering teams, so you will write the electrical requirements, review schematics, layouts, and component choices, and approve them before boards are built. You will hold the complete component-level BOM and specs for every product, and when a cheaper part or a simpler circuit is proposed, you will be the one who says whether it holds up, with data.
• POWER, CHARGING, AND PROTECTION: You will own how our products handle power in real. That covers USB-C and adapter inputs, battery charging and protection, thermal management, and the protection circuits. You will design that margin in from the start and prove it on the bench.
• MOTORS, SENSORS, AND FIRMWARE: You will own the parts of our products people hear and touch, and tune them for quiet, consistent behavior: fan and motor drive, humidity, water level, and light sensing, capacitive touch, and LED indication. You will write the control spec (what every button press, sensor reading, and indicator does) that our manufacturing partners build firmware against, then review and test every release before it ships. You will also set up firmware and PCBA version control with our factories, so every production lot can be checked against the version you approved.
• VALIDATION AND BUILD EVENTS: You will run the electrical side of EVT, DVT, and PVT, from test plans and sample sizes to pass criteria and an honest read on whether each build passed. That includes thermal, power, abuse, ESD and surge, battery cycling, and life testing. You will capture the data so the next program starts from evidence instead of memory.
• SAFETY AND EMC CERTIFICATION: You will collaborate with test labs, from early pre-scans through final reports, covering UL and ETL safety standards, FCC, and battery and adapter requirements.
• FAILURE ANALYSIS AND FACTORY TEST: Work with our CX and quality teams on return data so a customer complaint becomes a design or process change.
• SYSTEMS AND DOCUMENTATION: You will keep schematics, BOMs, test reports, and engineering change records current and findable, so anyone can pick up a program cold. You will work inside Canopy's modern, AI-native stack and use AI to speed up datasheet review, test data analysis, and documentation rather than absorbing that work by hand.
• CROSS-FUNCTIONAL PARTNERSHIP: You are the electrical voice between our US product development and industrial design teams, our Hong Kong manufacturing and quality team, and our factories, translating in both directions so nothing gets lost in a handoff. You will also partner with sourcing on second sources and component lifecycle, so a part going end of life never stops a production line. QUALIFICATIONS
• 5+ years of hands-on electrical engineering on small consumer electronics (small home appliances, personal care, baby and nursery tech, or portable devices), including at least one product you carried from schematic to mass production. This experience is a must for this role.
• A degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering, or a related field.
• Real depth in low-voltage power design: USB-C power input, AC/DC adapters, DC/DC conversion, and lithium battery charging and protection. You check absolute maximum ratings first and design margin for the charger and cable a customer actually owns.
• Hands-on experience with fan and motor drive (including BLDC), sensors, capacitive touch, and MCU-based control boards. You can read C, write a clear control spec, and test a firmware release against it. Writing firmware yourself is a plus.
• Schematic and PCB review in Altium, Cadence/OrCAD, PADS, or similar, plus real lab skill with an oscilloscope, power analyzer, and thermal camera. You can mark up a layout yourself rather than only comment on one.
• Experience taking household products through safety and EMC certification (for example UL 998 or UL 507, IEC 62133 and UN 38.3 for batteries, and FCC Part 15), including debugging a failed pre-scan.
• Direct experience with contract manufacturers or ODMs in southern China, as the engineer in the room rather than the person receiving the report. You surface problems early and push for the right fix rather than relaying the factory's answer.
• Fluent technical English for our US team and Mandarin for our factories, with Cantonese a plus, and the ability to travel roughly 50% of the time to suppliers in and around Shenzhen and Dongguan. YOU SHOULD APPLY IF...
• You get real satisfaction from putting a returned unit on the bench and tracing the failure to the one part or trace that caused it.
• You think about how people actually use products at home, half asleep in a dark nursery, and you design for that rather than for the bench alone.
• You would rather sit with a factory's engineers and solve a problem together than trade emails about it across time zones. LOCATIONThis role is based onsite in our Hong Kong office or in mainland China (Shenzhen or Dongguan), with roughly 50% travel to suppliers in mainland China.
