Internship - Operational Risk

Context Are you eager to gain hands-on experience in operational risk management within a dynamic and collaborative environment? Join Degroof Petercam’s Operational Risk team and contribute to strengthening the bank’s internal control framework. As an intern, you’ll work closely with experienced risk professionals to execute and monitor key controls, support compliance efforts, and help ensure the robustness of our risk processes. We’re looking for a detail-oriented and proactive individual who’s ready to learn, contribute, and grow in a fast-paced financial institution. Your position As an Operational Risk Intern within the Control Execution & Monitoring team at Degroof Petercam, you will contribute to the execution and continuous improvement of our internal control framework. Reporting to the Operational Risk Manager, you will collaborate with risk officers and control owners across the organization to ensure that key controls are properly executed and documented. Your Main Responsibilities Will Include
• Executing predefined operational risk controls based on established working instructions.
• Documenting control execution and outcomes in the appropriate tools and systems.
• Collecting and archiving control evidence to support audit and regulatory compliance.
• Assisting in the drafting and updating of working instructions. If you demonstrate a high level of autonomy, you may also be involved in the design and implementation of new controls, contributing directly to the enhancement of our risk management practices. This internship offers a valuable opportunity to gain hands-on experience in operational risk, develop a structured and analytical mindset, and contribute to the robustness of the bank’s control environment.

Your profile
We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented intern with a strong interest in risk management and internal controls. The ideal candidate is eager to learn, comfortable working with structured processes, and able to follow procedures with precision.
• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant field such as Business Engineering, Economics, or Finance.
• Strong sense of ownership and ability to work independently.
• Comfortable applying structured processes and adhering to internal guidelines.
• Capable of contributing to the implementation of new controls and procedures.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
• Fluent in French or Dutch, and able to work in English and either French or Dutch.
• Available full-time or at least 3–4 days per week.
• Analytical and detail-oriented mindset.
• Clear and structured communication.
• Initiative-driven and solution-oriented.
