Our client is looking for an experienced Portfolio & Governance Analyst to support the management of Digital and IT investment, portfolio governance and budget planning within a complex, multi-entity environment. This is a temporary full-time consulting opportunity for someone who can bring structure, analytical rigour and strong stakeholder management to a fast-moving governance and planning cycle.
Responsibilities
• Run the operational stage-gate cycle for new demands, including intake, review planning, decision follow-up and tracking of conditions.
• Review submissions for completeness and quality, including business case, scope, costs, planning, risks and benefits, and challenge owners when information is missing or inconsistent.
• Maintain the stage-gate log, decision register and action lists, and escalate delays where needed.
• Prepare agendas, decision packs and pre-reads for governance meetings, and capture minutes, decisions and follow-up actions.
• Keep the governance calendar up to date and ensure the right stakeholders are involved at the right time.
• Maintain an accurate portfolio overview covering status, budget consumption, forecast, milestones, risks and dependencies.
• Produce regular reporting and dashboards for leadership, highlighting deviations in scope, cost, timing and expected value.
• Support capacity and cost trade-off analysis across run, change and innovation.
• Contribute to benefit tracking for funded initiatives.
• Take an active role in the annual IT budget cycle, including planning setup, coordination of inputs and budget actualisation.
• Reconcile actuals, commitments, invoices and accruals against budget, update forecasts and explain variances.
• Translate budget actualisation and portfolio priorities into next-year capacity planning with team leads, including internal and external FTE and supplier capacity.
• Consolidate budget and capacity requests, identify gaps, overlaps and risks, and support the preparation of next-year budget and portfolio plans for decision-making.
• Propose practical improvements to templates, criteria and ways of working within the governance process. Technical Skills
• Strong understanding of portfolio, programme and project management practices.
• Good knowledge of IT cost structures, including run/change and capex/opex.
• Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills.
• Experience with portfolio management tools such as Planview, Clarity or ServiceNow SPM is an advantage.
• Experience with Power BI or similar reporting tools is also an advantage. Profile
• 5 to 8 years of experience in IT portfolio management, PMO, IT governance, IT finance or business control in a large or multi-entity organisation.
• Hands-on experience supporting or running a stage-gate or investment governance process.
• Experience contributing to an annual IT budget cycle, including forecasting, budget actualisation and capacity planning.
• Master’s degree or equivalent professional experience.
• PMO, portfolio management, or project management certification is an advantage, such as MoP, P3O, PMP or PRINCE2.
• Preferred background includes experience in logistics, postal, transport or another large corporate environment with multiple business units.
• Experience working with a Group Finance function on IT budgeting and forecasting is a plus. Practical Information
