THE ROLE: We are currently recruiting for an GL Accountant / Financial Controller (Belgium). The person will be responsible for end‑to‑end general ledger accounting, statutory compliance, and financial control activities for the Belgian entity/entities. The role ensures accurate financial reporting under Belgian GAAP and Group standards, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and compliance. This role will report into Europe Finance controller but will interact on a regular basis with Regional FD, SSC team in Poland and any other stakeholders inside or outside organisation. This role is based at our Betafence offices in Zwevegem, West Flanders.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
General Ledger, Period-End Close & AP/AR Oversight Own and perform General Ledger accounting activities, including preparation, review, and posting of journal entries, accruals, allocations, and management adjustments, excluding transactional AP/AR postings processed by the SSC. Execute timely and accurate month‑end, quarter‑end, and year‑end close in accordance with Group close calendars and policies. Review and approve AP and AR subledger postings from the SSC, ensuring correct accounting treatment, cut‑off, and valuation under Belgian GAAP and Group requirements. Perform and review balance sheet reconciliations, including AP, AR, VAT, payroll, provisions, intercompany, and other key accounts, maintaining robust supporting documentation. Act as finance owner for AP and AR processes in Belgium, reviewing ageing reports and reconciliations, monitoring SSC performance against SLAs, and resolving or escalating issues as needed. Support complex or non‑standard AP/AR matters (e.g. disputes, intercompany invoices, credit notes) and coordinate with SSC and local stakeholders on master data, payment terms, and customer/vendor topics. Continuously improve close processes, controls, and quality in collaboration with the SSC and Group Finance. Intercompany Accounting Own intercompany accounting for Belgium, including review of SSC‑processed transactions. Reconcile intercompany balances, settlements, and differences. Ensure compliance with Group transfer pricing policies and documentation. Reporting & Group Consolidation Load financial results into OneStream accurately and on time. Provide high‑quality variance analysis and commentary versus budget, forecast, and prior periods. Support budgeting, forecasting, and latest estimate processes. Statutory Accounting & Regulatory Reporting (Belgium) Maintain statutory accounting records under Belgian GAAP. Prepare Belgian statutory financial statements and disclosures. Coordinate and submit Annual Accounts to the National Bank of Belgium (BNB/NBB). Prepare Yearly Economic and Financial Information for the Works Council. Prepare and submit National Statistics (Statbel) reporting where required. Tax & VAT Compliance (with SSC Support) Review VAT postings and reconciliations prepared by the SSC. Prepare and submit Belgian VAT returns, including EC Sales Lists and Intrastat (if applicable). Ensure consistency between VAT returns, GL, and statutory accounts. Prepare corporate income tax provisions and support annual tax filing with external advisors. Cash & Treasury Interface Perform weekly cash forecasting and liquidity analysis. Review SSC‑prepared payment runs and cash postings. Perform bank reconciliations and cash-related balance sheet reviews. Internal Controls & Audit Act as local owner for internal controls over financial reporting (including AP/AR controls operated by SSC). Perform control reviews and testing; ensure proper documentation. Coordinate and support interim and year‑end external audits. Act as main Belgian contact for auditors, tax advisors, and Group Finance REQUIRED SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, experience and general skills Strong GL / Financial Controlling background in an SSC or hybrid SSC/local finance model. Solid understanding of Belgian GAAP, VAT, and statutory compliance. Experience with OneStream and major ERP systems (SAP/Oracle preferred) is a plus Fluent in English mandatory ; French and/or Dutch highly desirable. Personal traits
