Senior Digital ASIC Engineer
Mechelen based/ Hybrid Work Arrangements
Help shape the next generation of hearing technology.
Cochlear is looking for a Senior Digital ASIC Engineer to help shape, enable and deliver the ASIC technologies at the heart of our implantable and external hearing solutions.
This is a senior, hands-on individual contributor role where you'll contribute across the full digital ASIC lifecycle, from technology selection, architecture and requirements through internal or partner-led design and verification, tape-out, silicon bring-up and product integration.
Depending on the product need, solutions may be developed with specialist partners or selected from available technologies. Cochlear retains ownership of the requirements, technical decisions, acceptance and product outcome.
What you'll be doing
Contribute to ASIC technology roadmaps and evaluate custom, partner-developed and available component solutions against product needs.
• Develop and review digital ASIC requirements covering functionality, interfaces, performance, power, reliability and test.
• Review architecture, RTL, clock/reset, CDC/RDC, low-power implementation, DFT and verification evidence.
• Work closely with external ASIC design and verification partners, reviewing technical decisions and driving issues through to resolution.
• Identify and investigate key technical risks using simulation, formal verification, FPGA prototypes and silicon evaluation.
• Support tape-out readiness, silicon bring-up, characterisation, debugging and acceptance.
• Partner with hardware, embedded software, test, quality and product engineering teams through product integration.
• Use scripting, automation and AI-assisted engineering approaches to improve reviews, testing, analysis and engineering workflows. About you You're an experienced digital ASIC or FPGA engineer who enjoys getting into the technical detail, solving difficult problems and constructively challenging designs. Ideally, you'll bring:
• Around 7+ years' experience in digital ASIC or FPGA design, verification or integration.
• Strong knowledge of RTL, simulation, synthesis, verification and debugging.
• Practical experience with clock/reset, CDC/RDC, interfaces, low-power design, DFT and silicon behaviour.
• Experience reviewing or delivering work through external ASIC design or verification partners.
• The ability to connect product requirements with design behaviour, verification evidence and real-world implementation.
• Strong structured problem-solving and technical communication skills. Experience with SystemVerilog/UVM, formal verification, FPGA prototyping, Python or similar scripting will be highly regarded. Experience within medical devices, automotive, aerospace or another safety-critical environment would also be advantageous.
