We are seeking an experienced and scientifically driven Lead Biologist to lead biology activities within early-stage drug discovery programs, mostly based on small molecules and occasionally on therapeutic antibodies.
The role combines scientific expertise with project ownership and cross-functional collaboration, contributing to the progression of innovative therapeutic programs from target validation through selection of preclinical development candidates. This position is a lab based senior scientific coordinative role, operating with the guidance of the Director of Drug Discovery -Biology.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Drug discovery biology Lead biology-related aspects of multidisciplinary early stage drug discovery projects. Design and implement the assay flowchart, from hit identification through hit-to-lead and lead
- optimization up to preclinical drug candidate selection. Demonstrate scientific excellence in assay development, in vitro pharmacology and translational biology. Laboratory & scientific contribution Working in close collaboration with our internal lab team in a matrix-structure. Where appropriate, design and perform or support laboratory experiments to advance one or multiple project objectives. Project coordination Manage and follow-up all biology-related scientific and non-scientific aspects of projects (including planning, timelines and budget) Monitor project progress and deliverables to support high-quality scientific decision-making. Present project updates to internal leadership and external stakeholders. Collaboration and communication Manage scientific interactions with partners like academic groups, CROs, biotech and pharmaceutical companies. Ensure overall good communication across all internal and external collaborators involved Report to the Director of Drug Discovery (Biology) REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• PhD degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Medicine, Biomedical Sciences, Bio-engineering, Pharmacy or equivalent;
• in addition, minimum 5 year productive post-doc experience, illustrated by high-quality publications and/or direct experience in working in Biotech or Pharma.
• broad expertise in biochemistry, cell biology and/or in vitro pharmacology.
• ideally, experience in small-molecule and/or antibody drug discovery.
• extensive experience in developing and implementing new assays and models to support drug discovery projects.
• team player who can operate independently with attention for quality and details and at the same time be outgoing and a strong networker;
• an ambitious, hard and diligent worker willing to take responsibility and learn fast;
• pro-active, goal oriented and able to handle deadlines and pressure while taking responsibility for multiple projects at the same time;
