A growing biopharmaceutical company is seeking an experienced Medical Director or Senior Medical Director, Oncology to join its Clinical Development organization. This physician leader will play a key role in advancing innovative oncology programs and will contribute to clinical development strategy, study design, execution, and data interpretation across multiple stages of development. The ideal candidate will bring strong clinical and scientific expertise in oncology along with meaningful experience in industry-sponsored clinical development. This is a highly collaborative role working across Clinical Development, Clinical Operations, Regulatory Affairs, Biostatistics, Safety, and other cross-functional teams to advance oncology programs toward important clinical and regulatory milestones. Responsibilities
• Provide medical and scientific leadership across assigned oncology development programs
• Develop and execute clinical development strategies across early
- and late-stage development
• Lead or contribute to the design and execution of Phase I–III clinical studies
• Provide medical oversight of clinical trials, including safety, medical monitoring, study conduct, and clinical data review
• Interpret clinical data and provide recommendations on study strategy, program development, and benefit-risk
• Develop and review protocols, investigator materials, clinical study reports, publications, and regulatory documents
• Build relationships with investigators, key opinion leaders, and external oncology experts
• Collaborate with Clinical Operations, Regulatory, Safety, Biostatistics, and other functions to advance programs
• Participate in regulatory interactions and clinical components of IND/CTA and other global submissions
• Represent Clinical Development on cross-functional program teams and present clinical strategy and data to internal and external stakeholders
• At the Senior Medical Director level, provide broader strategic leadership across programs and mentorship to other members of the Clinical Development organization Qualifications
• MD or equivalent medical degree required
• Board eligible or board certified in Oncology, Hematology/Oncology, or another relevant medical specialty
• 4+ years of clinical development experience within the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry, academic clinical research, or a combination of relevant experience
• Demonstrated experience supporting or leading oncology clinical trials, ideally across multiple phases of development
• Strong understanding of clinical trial design, protocol development, medical monitoring, clinical data review, and safety oversight
• Experience working cross-functionally to develop and execute clinical development strategies
• Familiarity with the regulatory drug development process and clinical components of global regulatory submissions
• Ability to effectively engage with investigators, key opinion leaders, and external scientific experts
• Strong scientific judgment and ability to interpret complex clinical data
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Demonstrated ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative biopharmaceutical environment Senior Medical Director-Level Experience Candidates considered at the Senior Medical Director level should have an established record of clinical development leadership, including experience driving medical strategy for oncology programs, leading clinical studies or major study activities, influencing cross-functional development decisions, and representing Clinical Development with senior internal and external stakeholders. The company is open to candidates with experience across different oncology settings and mechanisms and will consider a range of oncology backgrounds based on the overall strength of the candidate's clinical development experience.
