Practice Lead, Immunization
Organisation
Bluesquare is a global health data company that helps governments, donors, and implementing partners build the digital systems needed to plan, finance, and deliver public health services. Since 2012, our tools
- including OpenHEXA and IASO
- and our advanced DHIS2 expertise have supported health programs in more than 30 countries, working with partners such as the World Bank, WHO, the Global Fund, the Gates Foundation, and national ministries of health. Immunization is a growing pillar of our work. From vaccine supply chain and stock management to coverage monitoring, surveillance, and campaign data systems, we support countries and their partners in using data to reach every child with life-saving vaccines. About the Role
We are looking for a Practice Lead, Immunization to build and grow this practice as a strategic pillar of Bluesquare. You will own the practice end to end: its strategic vision, its revenue and profitability, the quality of what it delivers, and its visibility in the immunization ecosystem. You will be both a subject-matter authority and a business builder, someone who deeply understands just as well how immunization programs work in LMICs as the global health institutions that drive much of immunization funding and R&D, and can turn that understanding into new partnerships, well-run projects, and a stronger reputation for Bluesquare in the sector.
Location:
Brussels (preferred), with international travel. Employment type: Full-time (we are also open to an 80% arrangement).
Key Responsibilities
1. Leadership and Strategy Vision and strategy: Develop and articulate the strategic vision for the Immunization practice: setting goals, defining service offerings (e.g., vaccine supply chain and cold chain data systems, coverage and dropout monitoring, AEFI surveillance, campaign data management), vaccine pipeline and R&D, and identifying growth opportunities. Leadership: Lead and inspire the Bluesquare team working on immunization, providing direction and fostering a collaborative, high-performance culture. Thought leadership: Contribute to the practice's visibility by authoring articles, blogs, and white papers, and participating in relevant conferences and technical working groups. Share knowledge and insights both internally and externally. Subject matter expertise: Maintain and develop deep expertise in immunization data flows, financing mechanisms, key actors, and emerging priorities (e.g., zero-dose children, integrated supply chains, vaccine confidence, new vaccines rollout and R&D (PCV, Rota, HPV, TB,...) and stay abreast of sector trends and best practices. 2. Business Development Client relationships: Identify key clients and partners in immunization; maintain strong relationships with actors such as Gavi, IAVI, CEPI, WHO, UNICEF, the Gates Foundation, Givewell, and national EPI units and continue building our network of partners. Act as a trusted advisor for high-level engagements. Market positioning: Position the Immunization practice in the market, identifying opportunities for growth and differentiation, and marketing the practice's services and tools. Sales and revenue growth: Drive business development for the practice: setting the BD strategy and leading or supporting proposal writing, budgeting, and partnership structuring to secure new clients and projects. 3. Client Engagement and Project Delivery Resource management: Validate the allocation and utilization of resources across the practice's projects, ensuring the right mix of skills and expertise are staffed. Project oversight: Provide oversight and technical guidance on major immunization projects to ensure they are delivered on time, within scope, and to the client's satisfaction. Quality assurance: Ensure that work produced by the practice meets Bluesquare's quality standards and delivers real value to clients and the programs they run. Profitability: Ensure the practice reaches its revenue and profitability targets. 4. Mentorship and Collaboration Talent development: Mentor and develop immunization experts at Bluesquare, supporting their professional growth and ensuring continuity and sufficient depth of knowledge within the practice. Cross-practice collaboration: Work with other practice leads and senior leaders to ensure collaboration and integration across the firm, delivering comprehensive solutions that draw on multiple areas of expertise. Engage with other practice leads on technical content for cross-practice project packages. What We're Looking For Significant experience (typically 7+ years) working on immunization programs, ideally combining field/program experience with data or digital systems. Existing personal network within the immunization/global health donor ecosystem. Strong understanding of the global immunization landscape: key actors (Gavi, WHO, UNICEF, national EPI programs), financing mechanisms, and current sector priorities (e.g., zero-dose children, vaccine pipe-line, cold chain equipment, integrated supply chains, vaccine confidence). Prior experience working with or for organizations such as Gavi, Givewell, WHO, UNICEF, Pharmaceutical companies, or similar either as staff, consultant, or close partner is strongly preferred. Demonstrated ability to develop business: identifying opportunities, building relationships, and writing winning proposals. Comfort working at the intersection of program design and technology, even without being a data scientist or software engineer yourself. Excellent communication skills in English and French. Willingness to travel internationally, including to low
- and middle-income countries. Entrepreneurial mindset, comfortable building something new within an established company. Nice to Have Background in public health, epidemiology, supply chain management, or a related field. Experience with DHIS2 or other health information systems. Experience in vaccine R&D Experience designing or evaluating vaccine supply chain or cold chain interventions Experience working on immunization in DRC or Niger
What We Offer
The opportunity to build and lead a strategic practice area from the ground up, with real autonomy and visibility with leadership. Work with a mission-driven team whose tools are used to strengthen health systems in more than 30 countries. A collaborative, international environment based in Brussels, with regular travel to project countries. While Brussels is our preferred location, remote arrangements with regular travel to our Brussels office may also be considered. Competitive compensation aligned with experience.
