The Opportunity
Are you an experienced accountant who enjoys hands-on accounting, solving problems and improving the way finance operates?
Pelsis Group, a global manufacturer and supplier of innovative pest control, garden care and environmental solutions, is looking for a Senior Accountant to join our Finance team in Bornem.
You’ll play a key role in maintaining accurate and complete financial records for our Belgian business, delivering timely month-end and year-end accounting and supporting strong financial controls.
This is a varied role combining general ledger accounting, balance-sheet reconciliations, Belgian VAT reporting and financial analysis. Working closely with local Finance colleagues, Group Finance and stakeholders across the business, you’ll also provide practical accounting guidance and help improve processes and systems
How You’ll Make an Impact
As our Senior Accountant, you’ll:
• Maintain accurate financial records: Manage general ledger accounting, prepare journals, accruals, prepayments and provisions, and support fixed-asset accounting.
• Deliver timely financial close: Complete month-end and year-end activities within Group reporting deadlines, preparing supporting schedules and investigating discrepancies.
• Strengthen balance-sheet integrity: Prepare and review reconciliations, resolve outstanding items and explain significant movements in balance-sheet and profit and loss accounts.
• Support Belgian compliance: Prepare or support VAT returns and related reporting, alongside local accounting and statutory requirements.
• Support transactional finance: Provide guidance to AP and AR colleagues, reconcile control accounts and help resolve complex supplier, customer and accounting queries.
• Provide reliable reporting: Prepare financial information and analysis for management and Group reporting, including information supporting cash-flow and working-capital visibility.
• Support audits and controls: Prepare audit documentation, respond to queries and help address control weaknesses and audit findings.
• Improve processes: Identify opportunities to streamline accounting activities, strengthen controls and support greater standardisation and automation.
• Share your expertise: Provide practical guidance to colleagues and support the development of junior Finance team members. What You’ll Bring We’re looking for a proactive, detail-focused accountant who takes ownership of their work and communicates clearly with finance and non-finance colleagues. You’ll need:
• Strong experience in financial accounting, general accounting or a similar role.
• Good working knowledge of Belgian accounting principles, with practical experience of Belgian VAT requirements and reporting.
• Hands-on experience of month-end and year-end close, including journals, accruals, prepayments and provisions.
• Strong experience preparing and reviewing balance-sheet reconciliations.
• An understanding of AP and AR processes and how they feed into the general ledger.
• Experience supporting internal or external audits.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with excellent attention to detail.
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills and experience using an ERP or accounting system.
• The ability to manage competing priorities and meet reporting deadlines.
• Fluent written and spoken Dutch and a good professional working knowledge of English. A relevant Accounting or Finance degree, an accounting qualification or progress towards qualification would be an advantage, alongside equivalent professional experience. We’d also welcome French language skills, experience in manufacturing or distribution, and exposure to an international or multi-entity finance environment. Familiarity with SAP ECC, finance process improvements or supporting junior colleagues would be beneficial.
